Maintenance Mechanic Leader

About the role

This position is located in the Clement J. Zablocki Medical Center, Milwaukee, a complex level IA facility. The incumbent functions as a Maintenance Mechanic Leader within the Architectural Shop, Operations and Maintenance, Facilities Management Division, accomplishing trades and labor work.

Responsibilities

• Passing on to other workers the instructions received from supervisors and getting work started, e.g., by assigning the immediate tasks to be performed by individual members of the group led;
• Working along with other workers and setting the pace;
• Demonstrating proper work methods;
• Seeing to it that needed plans, blueprints, materials, and tools are available, and that needed stock is obtained from supply locations;
• Obtaining needed information or decisions from supervisors on problems that come up during the work;
• Maintaining a current knowledge, and answering questions of other workers on procedures, policies, written instructions, and other directives (for example, technical orders);
• Seeing to it that there is enough work to keep everyone in the work crew busy;
• Checking work while in progress and when finished to see whether the supervisor's instructions on work sequence, procedures, methods, and deadlines have been met;
• Urging or advising other workers to follow instructions received from supervisors, and to meet deadlines;
• Assuring that safety and housekeeping rules are followed (for example, assuring that limits of safe machine operation are not exceeded and that all tools are used properly);
• Reporting to supervisors on status and progress of work, and causes of work delays;
• Answering questions of supervisors on overall work operations and problems (for example, concerning additional on-the-job training requirements for individual employees).

Requirements

• Manage and help train employees on proper steps in completing work orders and associated tasks.

Knowledge

• Sufficient to lead a multi-trade team consisting of:
• 2 FTEE - WG-3610-10/11 Insulators
• 2 FTEE- WG-4804-09 Locksmith
• 10 FTEE - WG-4607-09 Carpenters
• 3 FTEE - WG-4102-09 Painters
• 1 FTEE - WG-3506-09 Plasterer

Work Schedule

Full-time, Monday-Friday, 7 AM-3:30 PM and may be required to be present to provide off-hours support for utility outages, maintenance and projects support, etc. * Eligible for Alternate Work Schedule (AWS) with (8) 9 hour days and (1) 8 hour day and the 2nd Wednesday of the pay period off.

EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards.
