About the role
The Maintenance Mechanic I–IV position is responsible for performing maintenance and repair on various vehicles and equipment. This role requires a strong understanding of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems, as well as proficiency in using diagnostic tools and computerized vehicle diagnostic software.
Responsibilities
- Diagnose, repair, and maintain a wide range of systems including engines, transmissions, brakes, and electrical components.
- Prepare new vehicles for service by reviewing specifications and installing specialized equipment.
- Provide responsive customer service, including on-site repairs, after-hours support, and special service requests.
- Conduct required inspections, maintain compliance documentation, and update warranty and service records.
- Perform preventive maintenance, inspections, and diagnostics on vehicles and equipment.
- Operate a variety of shop equipment and diagnostic tools in accordance with safety and operational guidelines.
- Work scheduled shifts, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and on-call or emergency assignments as required.
Requirements
- Experience: Entry-level to advanced mechanical experience as per level.
- Education: Vocational or technical training in equipment, vehicle, and/or electrical and mechanical systems.
- License: Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
- Skills: Ability to diagnose and repair complex vehicle systems, proficiency in using diagnostic tools and computerized vehicle diagnostic software, and effective time management.
Qualifications
- Current certification or ability to become certified to perform Department of Transportation vehicle inspections within one year of hire date.
- ASE Certification (A Series, H Series, or T Series) preferred for Levels I – III.
- EVT Certification (F1 - F6) preferred for Levels I – III.
- CNG Fuel System Engine Certificate or ability to obtain within one year of employment.
- Knowledge of standard automotive mechanics and CNG systems.
- Prior experience working in a public transit, municipal fleet, or commercial vehicle maintenance environment.
Skills
- Proficiency in using hand tools, power tools, lifts, and specialized diagnostic equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and diagnostic codes.
- Effective time management and task prioritization in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to work varying shifts, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and emergency or on-call assignments.

Pay
Maintenance Mechanic I: $21.96 - $31.84 Hourly
Maintenance Mechanic II: $24.16 - $35.03 Hourly
Maintenance Mechanic III: $29.23 - $42.38 Hourly
Maintenance Mechanic IV: $32.15 - $46.62 Hourly
Full Salary Range: $21.96 - $46.62 Hourly
Schedule
The role includes a rotational on-call shift, including weekends, holidays, evenings, or extended hours based on operational needs.
