About the role

The Facilities Services Maintenance Mechanic ensures completion of assigned work-order projects and performs a wide variety of skilled maintenance activities—carpentry, plumbing, electrical, HVAC systems, alarms (Direct Digital Control, Pevco Tube System, Fire System Control), Medical Gas System, Generator Systems, Computer Monitoring Systems, boilers, and related infrastructure.

Responsibilities

• Provide emergency response to all hospital mechanical systems
• Perform general plumbing and HVAC functions
• Conduct routine preventive maintenance and repair on all utility systems
• Support construction/renovation project installations as assigned
• Perform general cleaning of maintenance areas and mechanical rooms
• Update work orders and service calls
• Operate and troubleshoot DDC System, Pevco Tube system, Medical Gas Alarm Panels, and Fire Systems
• Analyze blueprints, schematics, and drawings to determine efficient installation of new or upgraded systems
• Perform skilled trade functions (plumbing, painting, HVAC, carpentry, etc.) to complete projects within established time frames
• Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair refrigeration systems (ice machines, coolers, refrigerators)
• Maintain and operate power tools (drain snakes, pipe threaders, pro press, drills, etc.)
• Install plumbing systems (water and sanitary piping)
• Replace and rough-in water closets, sinks, and showers
• Perform other related duties to ensure the efficient functioning of the work unit

Requirements

• High school graduate or recognized equivalent
• Formal trade/vocational school training or five years of related experience
• Completion of apprenticeship program preferred
• Minimum of five years’ experience as a millwright, steamfitter, plumber, HVAC technician, or tradesman in a commercial, industrial, or healthcare setting
• Clean valid NYS driver’s license
• Working knowledge of computer skills, Microsoft Outlook, Building Management Systems, and modern Nurse Call systems
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and prepare material takeoffs
• Proficiency with standard hand tools, machinery, equipment, and precision measuring tools
• Ability to work rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays as needed

Work Environment

Industrial setting with occasional clinical exposure. Routine or potential exposure to blood, body fluids, or other biohazards. Intermittent to regular exposure to high temperatures, seasonal outdoor weather, and unpleasant physical conditions. Occasional to regular risk of moderate to serious injury from hand tools, power tools, machinery, confined spaces, and cleaning solutions.

Pay

Hourly pay range: $22.65–$32.30, based on experience, skills, and education. Exempt positions under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) will be paid within the base salary equivalent of the stated hourly rates. The range may vary by location.
