Maintenance Mechanic - Carpenter

Responsibilities

• Performs a variety of skilled and semi-skilled mechanical maintenance work.
• Does skilled carpentry work in the alterations, repair, and maintenance of buildings, floors, roofs, stairways, partitions, doors, window screens, wood fixtures and furniture.
• Repairs tables, chairs, benches, cupboards, counters;
• BUILDS concrete forms, false work and scaffolds;
• LAYS subflooring and does sheathing.
• OPERATES power saws, jointers, wood lathes, planers and boring, sanding and mortising machines.
• CLEANS, SHARPENS, AND REPAIRS hand and bench tools.
• MAKES estimates of time and materials required for assigned tasks;
• READS blueprints and rough drawings;
• KEEPS simple records.

Requirements

• Employee required to work any emergency as directed by the Commissioner of Public Works.

Qualifications

• 2 years of experience required in related work.
• Must be a resident of the city of Boston.
