Maintenance Mechanic

About the Role

This position involves servicing and maintaining equipment at Southampton Hospital and its off-site facilities as directed by the Director of Facilities and Engineering or appointed personnel.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine maintenance, repair, installation, and alteration of basic electrical, plumbing, and mechanical systems.
• Conduct preventive, casualty, and corrective maintenance on equipment.
• Assemble, install, and maintain mechanical systems, machinery, and equipment.
• Troubleshoot machinery and perform routine preventative maintenance.
• Read, interpret, and follow instructions and operation manuals.
• Maintain a schedule for inspecting, servicing, and testing machinery.
• Clean, repair, and install equipment and parts as needed.
• Operate a variety of hand and power tools.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area.
• Comply with health and safety regulations.
• Perform general maintenance work on buildings as assigned.

Requirements

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Active New York State Driver’s License.
• Ability to read and write to understand equipment operating instructions, maintain logs, and interpret blueprints and manufacturer’s specifications.
• Approximately one year of on-the-job experience.
• Knowledge and ability to operate hand and power tools.
• Mechanical aptitude and ability.
• Strong computer skills.
• Good troubleshooting skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Graduate of a trade or vocational school.

Physical Demands

• Ability to walk and stand for extended periods.
• Ability to lift objects weighing up to fifty pounds.
• Occasional exposure to excessive noise from machinery and minor electrical shocks or burns from equipment.
• Physical dexterity.
• May require travel to other locations to support operational needs.
• May require wearing respiratory protection, which may prohibit facial hair.
• Position may be designated as “essential,” requiring presence during institutional emergencies to protect, recover, and continue operations.

Pay

$30.99 - $33.18 per hour, based on relevant experience.

Schedule

Full-time.

Pre-Employment Requirements

• Successfully complete pre-employment physical examination and obtain medical clearance from Stony Brook Southampton Hospital’s Employee Health Services.
• Complete electronic reference check with a minimum of three professional references.
• Successfully complete a 4-panel drug screen.
• Meet regulatory requirements for pre-employment screenings.
• Provide a copy of any required New York State license(s)/certificate(s).
