Description
The Maintenance Mechanic at Smurfit Westrock is responsible for maintaining, evaluating, and repairing various systems and components within the manufacturing plant. This includes electrical/electronic, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems and components, as well as welding and machining. The role involves applying knowledge of electrical/electronics and mechanical principles to determine equipment malfunctions and restore equipment to operation. The position provides skilled mechanical and electrical/electronic support to all areas of Manufacturing.
Requirements
- Pays between $28.71 and $40.14 based on skill set.
- Works 3-shift 8-hour crew.
- Has 12-hour shifts with 7 days off out of every 14 days, resulting in a 3-day weekend every other week and opportunities for overtime.

Qualifications
- Ability to work overtime as required.
- Proven experience in the mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic fields.
- A thorough knowledge of electrical/electronic components and equipment, including the use of special instruments for diagnostic purposes.
- Computer experience and operation, as well as PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) operation.
- High degree of precision working with minimum tolerances required.
- Ability to climb in overhead structures, work beneath machines, and perform analysis and repair work in close quarters.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Two-year technical degree or accredited apprenticeship program in a technical field is required.
Skills
- Thorough knowledge of electrical/electronic and mechanical theories and principles.
- Writing specifications, local and national electrical codes, properties of various materials, and principles of operation and application of electronic equipment.
- Installing, starting up, and shutting down equipment in compliance with company safety procedures and OSHA requirements.
- Advising operators and line mechanics on safe working practices with electrical/electronic and mechanical equipment and components.
- Informing appropriate management and line mechanics about potential electrical/mechanical problems and inherent dangers involved.
- Maintaining Company-required Performance and Maintenance Records for identified equipment.
- Performing preventive maintenance functions as directed.
- Assisting maintenance personnel with technical troubleshooting.
- Assisting and training other maintenance and/or other technical level employees.
