Maintenance Mechanic

About the role

Mechanic works under the general supervision of the Maintenance Manager and Maintenance Lead performing repairs and preventative maintenance. This position will assist and/or lead with industrial equipment troubleshooting, repairs, and preventive maintenance service. A large amount of preventative maintenance may require the take down of the entire production line and going through piece by piece to ensure that worn pieces are replaced and that all items have been repaired. Tasks may include fabrication, welding, and plumbing (including air and hydraulics). Perform periodic inspections, testing, and adjustments necessary to maintain processing systems in peak operating condition while adhering to safety principles and procedures.

Responsibilities

• Repair and maintenance on heavy equipment, with experience using tools required for such repairs.
• Master mechanical knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
• Maintain, repair, and rebuild pumps, motors, sprockets, conveyors, and bearings.
• Perform preventive maintenance procedures on building mechanical systems on a scheduled basis.
• Inspect belts, check fluid levels, replace filters, grease bearings, seals, etc., and repair or replace broken parts.
• Complete daily, weekly, and monthly checklists on building equipment maintenance procedures and maintain records of scheduled maintenance.
• Perform tasks associated with a preventative maintenance program, including cleaning, lubrication, adjustments, visual inspections, minor repairs, and calibrations.
• Lead small teams in conjunction with the Maintenance Lead Mechanic to perform large-scale projects (both capital improvements and in-house upgrades).
• Serve as a subject matter expert on varying processing equipment.
• Work effectively in a fast-paced environment and respond well to instruction and supervision.
• Follow all safety, health, and environmental policies, procedures, and regulations per the Company’s HACCP, GMP’s, Lock Out Tag Out, job safe practices, and other related programs.
• Obtain or have an LTO license.
• Demonstrate good attendance, safety, and work record.
• Work all shifts and days off as required.
• Take a Mechanic test to assess skills and knowledge.

Requirements

• Eight (8) years of work experience in a manufacturing facility, including:
• Maintenance of conveyors, pumps, fans, and other process equipment.
• Oxy-acetylene and electric arc welding and cutting of carbon steel.
• Metal fabrication and the ability to weld stainless steel.
• Pneumatics, including troubleshooting and replacement of solenoid valves, air cylinders, and other components.
• Hydraulics, including troubleshooting and replacement of hydraulic cylinders, lines, valves, and other components.
• Strong problem-solving skills.
• Perform root-cause fault diagnostics on mechanical systems to identify and correct machinery and/or system failures.
• Industrial maintenance experience within a manufacturing environment; processing, milling, quality, and related equipment knowledge preferred.
• Ability to perform and comprehend verbal and written communication in English.
• Ability to read and complete required paperwork.
• Ability to perform all required mathematical calculations.
• Ability to work alone and stay on task with minimal supervision.

Physical Demands

• Meet all physical requirements of the job.
• Ability to work in hot, cold, wet, dusty, odorous, noisy environments.
• Ability to work in confined spaces, at high elevations, atop ladders or man lifts, on the roof, and underneath equipment.
• Physically able to wear required personal protective equipment.
• Physically able to perform “heavy” work.

Pay

The pay for this role in the state of CA is between $40.00/hr - $45.00/hr and is based on position responsibilities and geographic location.
