ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Works at following and promoting company safety rules and policies and following accepted safe work practices.
- Safely operate forklifts to move equipment and materials to and from the production areas, scales, warehouse, etc.
- Safely operate the man-lift and observe weight and height limits.
- Replace faulty electrical components of machines such as relays, switches, and motors and position sensing devices.
- Install new pumps, motors and various other production equipment.
- Know the proper use of voltage testing equipment.
- Start devices to test their performance.
- Set up and operate drill press, hydraulic press and cut off saw.
- Use various other hand and shop tools to make and repair parts and equipment.
- Fabricate new equipment or modify existing equipment to meet production requirements.
- Possess essential mechanical skills to be able to troubleshoot equipment malfunctions and to be able to make proper repairs.
- Perform electrical preventative maintenance on extrusion equipment and other related fields as needed.
- Know the basic extrusion process and assist the production department in all aspects of PVC pipe manufacture.
- Supply your own hand tools.
- Communicate well with other employees and operators to determine repair problems needed.
- Aid other employees when needed and work successfully in a self-managed work team.
- Be a self-starter and perform duties with little direct supervision.
- Attend required training sessions, wear the required safety equipment such as hearing protection, safety glasses, and other safety equipment that might be required for certain jobs or tasks.
- Be willing to learn new tasks and take on individual responsibilities.
- Be willing to be on call.
QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED); 1-3 years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and welding knowledge is required, with the ability to read schematics in all related areas.
- Experience with computers and basic keyboarding skills.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- Ability to compute rates, ratios and percentages. Ability to work with the metric system.
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in changing situations.
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
- Ability to make accurate and timely decisions in a stressful environment.
- Regularly stands and uses hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls.
- Walks, reaches with hands and arms, talks and hears.
- Stoops, kneels, crouches, or climbs stairs, and climbs ladders and work at heights up to 50 feet.
- Lifts and/or moves up to 50 pounds and occasionally lifts and/or moves up to 50 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- The work environment is usually loud and the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical and hydraulic equipment, outside weather conditions, fumes or airborne particles, and vibration.
