This position is with Helena Industries (HI), a wholly owned subsidiary of Helena Agri-Enterprises, LLC. HI provides production and distribution solutions to customers across a wide variety of industries and is one of the largest chemical toll manufacturers in the U.S. Our clients include many household name brands and large retailers.

About the role

The Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for maintaining production and quality by ensuring operation of machinery and mechanical equipment. This position performs work in a safe, responsible manner by following all safety rules and procedures and troubleshooting mechanical, electrical, and computer-related issues that arise.

Responsibilities

  • Installs, adjusts, and maintains all mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic plant equipment.
  • Performs general mechanical functions and repairs on plant equipment, vehicles, buildings, facilities, or instruments.
  • Performs general skills such as welding, basic fabrication, pipefitting, HVAC, electronic scale repair, pump repair, pump seal rebuilds, and basic line equipment repair and rebuilding.
  • Helps develop a preventative maintenance or work order system to track all issues that arise to ensure clear communication is provided to plant leads and operations manager.
  • Installs new machinery and equipment.
  • Completes general repairs such as painting, patching walls, and security hardware.
  • Maintains inventory of related supplies.
  • Maintains tools and machinery in good condition.
  • Notifies leader of recurring equipment malfunctions, corrective action taken, quality problems, or supplies needed.
  • Maintains a clean work environment both inside and outside the facility by using good housekeeping habits.
  • Removes defective parts by dismantling devices, using hoists, cranes, and hand and power tools, examining form and texture of parts.
  • May be required to drive a company vehicle.
  • Provides excellent customer service to all internal and external customers.
  • Performs other work-related duties as assigned by leader.
  • Regular and reliable attendance is required.
  • Follows all company policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • Degree from a vocational or technical trade school or three years of experience in a plant maintenance position is required.
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time in extreme hot or cold temperatures.
  • May be required to pass OSHA respirator physical.
  • Must be able to work rotating shifts as scheduled.
  • Ability to work on elevated equipment up to 100 feet off the ground.
  • Ability to read, write, and speak in English is required; communicating in Spanish is a valuable skill.
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license is required to drive a company vehicle; must meet all company requirements to drive a Helena vehicle.
  • Applicants must meet the legal age requirement for operating a moving vehicle or interacting with heavy equipment.
  • Successful completion of a drug test and background check is required.

Work Environment & Physical Demands

At Helena, safety is our highest priority. The work environment for this position is in a typical plant/warehouse setting where the noise level is usually moderate to loud. You will regularly work near moving equipment/mechanical parts and could be exposed to fumes, airborne particles, chemical and biological hazards, vibrations, and a risk of electrical shock.

  • Use of hands for many different tasks, including talking, hearing, walking, sitting, and standing for 8 hours a day or more.
  • Lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling up to and including 50 lbs or more.
  • Reaching overhead up to and including 25 lbs.
  • Climbing, gripping, grasping, and twisting using hands and wrists.
  • Bending and stooping for long periods of time.
  • Working below knee level and above shoulder level for short periods of time.
