Maintenance Mechanic

A World of Difference. Made Possible. This position involves performing basic preventive maintenance on facilities and facilities support equipment, maintaining the exterior of buildings during summer and winter, and completing facility repair work orders and upkeep tasks as directed.
Responsibilities
- Maintains exterior of building during summer and winter.
- Performs facility repair work orders and facility upkeep as directed.
- Covers for Maintenance Utility workers as required to complete specific job assignments safely and promptly.
- Ensures work performed meets current skill level.
- Works in a safe manner and ensures co-workers work in a safe manner.
- Reports safety hazards immediately to appropriate individual.
- Expands safety awareness by participating in safety training programs.
- Performs basic facility preventive maintenance, including production area pest control abatement, filter changing on air conditioning units, cleaning air compressors, checking and correcting lubrication fluid levels on air compressors, chill water pumps, etc.
- Performs facility repair type work orders, including replacing lamps in lighting fixtures, repairing broken doorknobs, water leaks, and painting.
- Schedules and oversees the pickup and disposal of hazardous and non-hazardous waste.
- Oversees routine regulatory inspections per the HSE Manager in support of our Environmental and Safety Compliance programs.
- Troubleshoots machinery and equipment, disassembling to gain access and remove defective parts, making repairs, and then reassembling.
- Installs, repairs, replaces, changes, adjusts, and aligns components of machinery and equipment.
- Tests-repairs machinery and equipment to verify adequacy of repairs.
- Completes daily work orders within the time frame specified on the work order.
- Installs machinery and equipment.
- Performs routine preventative maintenance to ensure that machines continue to run smoothly, building systems operate efficiently, and the physical condition of the building does not deteriorate.
- Inspects drives, motors and belts, checks fluid levels, replaces filters, and performs other maintenance functions, following checklists.
- Transports machine parts, tools, equipment, and other material between work areas and storage using carts, fork truck, lift, pallet jack, etc.
- Records repairs and maintenance performed.
- Orders or requisitions parts and supplies from catalogs and suppliers, or obtains them from store room.

- Assists Craftsmen in basic preventive maintenance functions on production equipment.
- Displays good work habits that will set good examples for co-workers.
- Continually monitors and maintains work areas to keep them clean and well organized.
- Responsible for compliance with all facility food safety and quality policies and procedures including product safety (GMP’s)/Sanitation policies and procedures.
- Employee must continually work to promote the orderliness and cleanliness of their work area in support of SQF/5’s and other company standards.

- Supports and is involved in GPI efforts for LEAN, 5’s, Six Sigma and other Continuous Improvement programs and processes.
Qualifications
- Basic education: High School or equivalent.
- Specialized education: Basic electrical skills, basic mechanical skills, and basic carpentry skills.
- Experience: Five years on the job experience as an electrician, mechanic or plant maintenance.
- Specialized knowledge, machines or equipment operated: Volt meters, ammeters, ohmmeters, basic hand tools (electric saw, electric drill, welder, etc.).
- Environmental experience a plus.
- Previous experience in the consumer packaging and printing industry a plus.
- Knowledge of equipment manufactured by KBA, Bobst, Jagenburg and other Industry equipment.
