Maintenance Mechanic

About the role

The Maintenance Mechanic (Millwright) position at BASF’s Performance Chemicals division in McIntosh, AL, is designed to ensure stable mechanical skills and provide experienced maintenance talent for site operations.

Responsibilities

• Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair mechanical equipment used in site operations.
• Perform millwright tasks such as laser alignment, runout checks, bearing replacement, seal replacement, equipment troubleshooting, and torquing.
• Replace and service lip seals, mechanical seals, packing, and stuffing boxes.
• Support maintenance work on pumps, blowers, couplings, belts, sheaves, bearings, valves, and related mechanical components.
• Perform alignment tasks using straight edge and laser alignment methods, including soft foot checks as required.
• Demonstrate safe and effective use of hand tools, power tools, precision tools, rigging equipment, and mechanical maintenance equipment.
• Work as part of BASF, contractor, or mixed maintenance crews as operational needs require.
• Follow site safety expectations, work procedures, and applicable labor agreement requirements.
• Perform other maintenance duties assigned based on operational and business needs.

Requirements

• Possess a High School Diploma with a minimum of 5 years of experience in chemical plant operations.
• Show strong knowledge of plant functions and processes.
• Have verified millwright experience.
• Demonstrate proficiency in the following areas:
• Laser alignment
• Runout checks
• Bearing replacement
• Seal replacement, including lip seals, mechanical seals, and packing/stuffing box work
• Mechanical equipment troubleshooting
• Torquing

Qualifications

• General mechanical experience preferred.

Skills

• Skilled mechanical maintenance work.
• Troubleshooting, repairing, installing, aligning, and maintaining industrial equipment.
• Millwright experience.
