Maintenance Mechanic 2nd Shift

About the role

This is an entry-level maintenance mechanic position. Under the supervision of a higher-level mechanic, you will learn to troubleshoot and repair production equipment and maintain building support systems, including air, water, steam, hydraulic, refrigeration, and electric systems.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot and repair all production facility equipment in a timely manner with supervision
• Perform preventative maintenance on production and warehouse equipment
• Perform mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, welding, and plumbing duties as required
• Rebuild or replace equipment such as pumps, gear boxes, bearings, bushings, chains, bundler headers, and conveyors
• Complete assigned work orders by their required due dates
• Complete assigned housekeeping duties
• Communicate any conditions that prevent product manufacture to established standards to the Maintenance Supervisor or Manager
• Work safely in compliance with company, state, and federal GMPs, SOPs, and policies
• Work overtime, including weekends, holidays, and emergencies, as needed
• Provide and use basic hand tools necessary for the position
• Work effectively as part of a team with a positive attitude
• Perform other assigned duties

Requirements

• Must take an in-house mechanical aptitude test
• Basic math and reading skills
• Ability to work independently or in a team
• Good organizational and time management skills
• High school or trade school diploma, or equivalent experience

Physical Requirements

• Communication: Ability to talk and hear
• Visual: Ability to read small print (e.g., manuals)
• Dexterity: Ability to use hands and fingers to perform tasks
• Ability to work while lying on back/side, on knees, and in awkward positions
• Ability to work in limited access areas, cramped or confined spaces
• Standing: Long periods (4–6 hours)
• Sitting: Infrequently
• Walking: Occasionally for short periods
• Climbing: Frequently (e.g., ladders)
• Squatting/Crouching: Frequently
• Use of hands/wrists/arms: Frequently
• Twisting of wrists: Frequently
• Lifting: Up to 30 lbs. occasionally
• Carrying: 30–50 lbs. frequently, up to 30 yards
• Pushing/Pulling: Under 75 lbs. frequently without assistance; over 75 lbs. occasionally with assistance
• Ability to withstand temperature ranges from 100°F to -40°F for varied periods

Work Environment

• Manufacturing environment with moving parts
• High noise levels
• Outdoor temperatures: 95°F and higher to -5°F and lower
• Indoor temperatures: 80°F and higher to -30°F and lower
• Wet, damp, and icy conditions
• Exposure to chemical hazards, including cleaning and refrigeration chemicals

Safety Responsibilities

• Work safely and responsibly at all times, following all safety policies, procedures, and rules
• Report unsafe observations or conditions to a supervisor or manager
• Immediately report injuries or accidents to a supervisor or manager
• Complete all required training, including Lock Out/Tag Out, confined space, electrical safety, Hazmat Technician, hot work, ladder, fall protection, and fire safety

SQF Responsibilities

• Maintain food safety and quality by completing job tasks and keeping the work area sanitary per prescribed procedures
• Report food safety problems to a supervisor or manager
• Support the preventative maintenance program

Pay

The pay range for this position is $27.95 – $30.44 USD per hour.

Schedule

Shift hours: 2:00 PM to 10:30 PM, Monday to Friday.
