Maintenance Mechanic 2nd Shift

About the role

Carpenter Co. has an immediate opening for a Maintenance Mechanic on 2nd shift at our Elkhart, IN manufacturing plant. This position ensures all machinery, equipment, delivery systems, support systems, and building conditions essential to manufacturing are maintained and operating at optimum efficiency. The successful candidate will collaborate with department managers and maintenance planners to coordinate production schedules with mechanical repairs, working in a maintenance and manufacturing environment with exposure to temperature changes.

Major challenges include working independently on complex jobs and completing tasks in a timely manner to minimize downtime.

Responsibilities

• Perform basic plumbing and electrical repairs on machinery and equipment.
• Conduct preventative maintenance on equipment.
• Weld and use tools such as cutting torches, plasma cutters, cut-off saws, and machine-shop equipment.
• Report conditions that may affect equipment operation.
• Fabricate, install, and make mechanical assemblies operational.
• Travel to other Carpenter Co. locations as needed.
• Assemble and disassemble equipment, and prepare it for shipment.
• Read and interpret machine diagrams and plant layout drawings.
• Identify potential mechanical problems, plan solutions, and implement repairs.
• Maintain the plant fire system.
• Serve on the plant emergency response team (as needed).
• Read and interpret standard and metric tape measures.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED, plus 2+ years of specialty or technical training.
• 3+ years of experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
• Good communication and advanced math skills.
• Forklift certification.
• Ability to operate a genie boom and scissor lift.
• Ability to read and interpret a tape measure (standard and metric).
• Possession of a variety of personally owned industrial hand tools.

Pay

Starting hourly pay rate: $29.15 to $30.75 per hour.

Schedule

2nd shift: Typically 2:00 PM – 10:30 PM.
