Responsibilities
- Report to the deputy warden of operations and directly supervise maintenance clerk and maintenance workers.
- Oversee general maintenance and repair of equipment and buildings, including technical trades such as plumbing, electrical, painting, and carpentry.
- Conduct regular inspections of buildings, grounds, and equipment to ensure compliance with American Correctional Association (ACA) standards, Management & Training Corporation (MTC), and Mississippi Department of Corrections (MDOC) directives.
- Perform maintenance tasks and maintain an effective work order system.
- Supervise and evaluate offenders assigned to the department.
- Coordinate with other facility staff and departments to determine maintenance needs.
- Schedule pest control services.
- Prepare and maintain management records, including equipment inventory and building systems descriptions.
- Develop and ensure adherence to facility preventive maintenance plans.
- Maintain preventative maintenance records, repair records, and prepare reports for contractual compliance.
- Ensure the facility complies with ACA standards and all federal, state, and local safety and health laws.
- Oversee the vehicle fleet to ensure safe operational condition and adherence to maintenance schedules.
- Coordinate with the deputy warden for all outsourced repairs and oversee work performed by outside vendors.
- Train, supervise, and evaluate inmates assigned to the department.
- Oversee the count and control of items assigned to staff, including tool carts, tool bags, or other secured items.
- Perform physical functions of the position, such as walking properties, climbing stairs/ladders, using power/hand tools, and lifting, squatting, bending, sitting, standing, or kneeling for extended periods.
- Perform other duties as assigned within capabilities, as determined by management.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Five (5) years of experience in buildings, grounds, and equipment maintenance, with three (3) years in a supervisory capacity.
- Valid driver’s license in Mississippi with an acceptable driving record (unless waived by management).
- Must successfully complete annual in-service training requirements post-hire.
