Maintenance Field Supervisor

Duties & Responsibilities

• Supervises employees engaged in a variety of work associated with the maintenance of town grounds including town square, cemeteries, lift stations, easements, water towers, walking trails and grounds around various town facilities.
• Clean up pre and post events’ areas, clean trash cans and recycle bins in the downtown area.
• Schedule duties, make assignments and communicate with employees throughout the day if assignments change.
• Ensure needed tools and equipment are provided, oversee and inspect work, and participate in the work as needed.
• Use a computer to schedule work, ensure crew members take proper tools, equipment, and supplies to the work site, and take responsibility for work crews and their safety.
• Supervise Property Maintenance Workers. Assign daily work, inspect work in progress and upon completion.
• Participate in the training, safety, ensure application of safety regulations.
• Provide input into employee performance evaluations.
• Document work performed.
• Supervise the use of pesticides.
• Actively participate in grounds maintenance duties such as mowing, weed eating, clearing, applying pesticide and trash removal at town facilities, cemeteries, water towers and downtown areas.
• Complete work orders. Ensure work materials are at worksite, document supplies used.
• Operate a variety of equipment as needed, including mowers, weedwhacker, tractor and dump truck; drive to work sites.
• Schedule use and maintenance of equipment.
• Mow grass and use weed-eater around graves at the cemeteries.
• Aid with other cemetery maintenance duties.
• Coordinate the use of available equipment, materials and staff.
• Respond to citizen requests and complaints.
• Answer public questions and resolve issues.

Special Requirements, Education & Experience

• Considerable knowledge of the principles and practices of grounds maintenance activities.
• Considerable knowledge of the use of related equipment and materials.
• Thorough knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions of the work.
• Working knowledge of effective supervisory principles and practices and organizational personnel policies and procedures.
• Skill in operation of assigned division equipment.
• Ability to maintain records of work activities.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, supervisors, and the public.
• Ability to plan work to meet schedules and priorities and to coordinate and collaborate with other staff on meeting needs.
• Ability to train and lead other workers on a regular basis.
• Ability to deal courteously with the public.
• Ability to work independently and without close supervision.

Education And Experience

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Class A CDL and Pesticide license required.
• Experience in grounds maintenance and equipment operation work, preferably including some supervisory or lead worker experience.
