About the Role

Assists in the maintenance of Buena Vista Sports Complex and in the coordination of special events. Monitors, participates, and assists in ensuring that buildings and grounds are properly maintained and that special events run smoothly.

Responsibilities

  • Assists with the setting-up of special events.
  • Performs maintenance activities, such as cleaning, mopping, washing and waxing floors, cleaning and shampooing carpets, painting walls and fixtures, repairing lights, etc.
  • Moves chairs and tables for special events.
  • Performs grounds maintenance work, such as cutting grass with a weed eater, edger, or lawn mower.
  • Performs other related work as required.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of general building and grounds maintenance functions.
  • Knowledge of special event coordination, including setup of tents, tables, and chairs.
  • Ability to maintain buildings and grounds in a clean and neat manner.
  • Ability to maintain harmonious and effective working relationships with other employees and the general public.
  • Ability to project a positive and professional image of the City of Laredo.
  • Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing in English and orally in Spanish.
  • Ability to comply with all City of Laredo's policies and procedures.
  • Ability to maintain good health and physical condition sufficient to perform the duties of the position.
  • Ability to perform strenuous work and routine work.
  • Ability to take and follow directions from a supervisor.
  • Ability to give directions to and gain compliance from assigned staff.

Work Environment & Physical Demands

  • Majority of work performed in an outdoor environment or with exposure to risk, including street environments, construction sites, and warehouses.
  • Frequent exposure to extreme heat (above 100 degrees), loud noises (85+ decibels), and moving mechanical parts.
  • Occasional exposure to extreme cold (below 32 degrees), fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, hostile or irate individuals, and individuals with known violent backgrounds.
  • Exerting up to 35 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Qualifications

  • At least three (3) months of general maintenance work experience.
  • Valid Texas Identification card or Government Issued card required at the time of job offer and hire.
  • Must have a reliable form of transportation to and from the work site and be able to arrive on time.

A thorough background check and certified school transcripts will be required. All selected applicants must undergo a drug and alcohol test prior to employment. Random drug and alcohol testing may apply for safety-sensitive positions.
