Maintenance Engineering Manager

About the role
Atlas Roofing Shingles, Underlayments and Ventilation is seeking an Engineering Manager for Franklin, OH. This role involves overseeing manufacturing equipment procurement, maintenance, and process optimization while ensuring compliance with health, safety, and environmental (HSE) regulations and quality, cost, and delivery (QCD) standards.
Responsibilities
- Procure manufacturing equipment with consideration for security, quality, and environmental protection, including follow-up on equipment and tooling.
- Update manufacturing routines and work instructions.
- Maintain processes (machines, tools, procedures) at optimal levels in compliance with HSE regulations and QCD.
- Build and manage the engineering budget and plant capital expenditures (CAPEX), ensuring their application.
- Oversee plant central maintenance and monitor capacity utilization.
- Keep plant layout updated.
- Plan, monitor, and coordinate the work of external companies.
- Create and introduce procedures for engineering tasks.
- Support problem-solving initiatives and engineering change management processes.
- Facilitate and monitor the progress of the Continuous Improvement Program.
- Monitor departmental budget to ensure goals are maintained.
- Establish and track metrics for reporting engineering department performance.
- Periodically evaluate subordinates’ performance according to company policy.
- Adhere to and stay updated on all company policies.
- Commit to team and corporate goals, mission, and vision.
- Visit customers and suppliers as necessary and act as a liaison to internal and external stakeholders.
- Perform other duties as required.
Requirements
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Experience with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software is desired.
Skills
- Strong understanding of Total Quality Management (TQM) and Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) and their practical implementation.
- Basic knowledge of AutoCAD and Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) is preferred (ControlLogix/RS Logic).
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Basic detail and conceptual design skills.
- Experience with project management and implementation from initial planning to completion.
- Lean Six Sigma skills and experience preferred.
- Advanced analytical skills and creativity in problem-solving/troubleshooting.
- Strong organizational skills to manage multiple short- and long-term projects.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written, verbal, and presentation), with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Demonstrated initiative and proactive attitude in handling complex assignments.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or chemical engineering.
