Maintenance Engineer III

About the role
The Maintenance Engineer III oversees plant predictive and preventive maintenance programs, equipment failure analysis, spare parts inventory improvements, plant lubrication programs, and infrastructure maintenance. This role executes capital and expense projects to reduce cost, improve reliability, and provide an expedited ROI, while managing plant utilities including steam, compressed air, cooling water, and natural gas. A thorough understanding of boilers, air compressors, and cooling towers is required.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement equipment reliability initiatives
- Assist production to optimize plant productivity and quality
- Serve as a technical resource for production personnel on plant utilities
- Provide technical advice and direction to maintenance employees to enhance their skills
- Lead the implementation of long-term solutions to recurrent problems
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues quickly as they arise
- Review and optimize predictive and preventive maintenance programs
- Communicate daily with area coordinators
- Support all aspects of maintenance and production on-call 24/7
- Implement improvement projects (scope, cost estimation, capital requests, supervision of fieldwork, commissioning)
- Investigate frequent equipment failures to identify root causes and implement long-term solutions
- Oversee outside contractors in support of plant requirements
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering (preferred)
- 5 or more years of engineering experience in chemical or food processing industries
Skills
- Expert working knowledge of production equipment and chemical processes
- Knowledge of industrial maintenance techniques (PM, PDM, CMMS, RCM, TPM)
- Understanding of good engineering and safety practices
- Ability to coordinate, train, and motivate hourly employees and outside contractors
- Strong communication and technical writing skills
- Ability to estimate, plan, schedule, and complete work orders in a timely fashion
- Experience managing budgets and estimating project costs
- Knowledge of capital money management and return on investment
- Strong teamwork skills to collaborate with colleagues and support maintenance teams
