Maintenance - Electronic HVAC Technician 1st shift

Responsibilities

• Perform repairs, installations, and replacements of HVAC equipment in facilities and properties as a Licensed HVAC Journeyman.
• Adhere to safety devices and practices, including staging, ladders, rigging, and ventilation.
• Proper use and care of all trade-related tools.
• Read and understand blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings.
• Handle rigging and material safely, including unloading materials and using ladders, scaffolding, power lifts, and personnel lifts.
• Manage handling, storage, and disposal of chemicals and refrigerant drums.
• Understand and work with relief valves, high/low pressure temperature switches, fusible plugs, and electrical equipment and circuits.
• Recover chlorofluorocarbon refrigerant gases.
• Identify potential in-place asbestos materials and follow procedures for avoidance and notification of certified asbestos handlers.
• Install equipment, including setting and mounting, hanging methods, fittings, tubing, pipe, vibration elimination, evacuation, venting, insulation, welding, soldering, brazing, tanks, and piping.
• Perform soldering of piping systems, including soft soldering, hard soldering, and brazing.
• Understand and work with various controls such as thermostatic switches, humidistats, analog controls, direct digital controls (DDC), microprocessor controls, solid-state controls, starters, contactors, relays, safeties, and pneumatic systems.
• Calibrate controls and balance air distribution systems to maintain proper air temperature.
• Operate central and auxiliary computers that monitor, test, control, and operate boilers, auxiliary systems, and energy management systems.
• Understand and work with various valves, including expansion valves, solenoid valves, evaporator and compressor regulating valves, and service valves.
• Understand evaporators, including gravity forced air, low/high side float, flooded/dry, low/high temperature, fin type, plates, water cooling, and double refrigerant types.
• Understand compressors, including characteristics of various refrigerants, rotary, reciprocating, semi-sealed belt drive, electric motors, lubrication, valve adjustment, and shop repair and overhaul.
• Understand condensers, including installation and service of air-cooled and water-cooled systems, and water towers.
• Understand air conditioning systems, including aerodynamics, distribution, airflow, sizing, cleaning, dehydrating, cooling, heating, insulating valves, heat recovery, motors, fans, pumps, compressors, air purification, and humidifiers.
• Perform testing, charging, starting, and adjusting of systems, including leak testing, cleaning and drying, charging with refrigerant, and adjusting controls.
• Install and service oil and gas burners, including high-pressure gun burners, low-pressure atomizers, rotary burners, vaporizing burners, and gas burners.
• Service, test, and adjust nozzles, ignition, pumps, regulating valves, smoke and soot, noise, and excessive fuel consumption.
• Familiarize with machine shop tools and methods, characteristics of general circuits, and general troubleshooting.
• Maintain and inventory tools, equipment, and replacement parts used in repair and service.
• Maintain the Valve Backflow Prevention Program and provide EH&S documentation.
• Follow all local, state, and federal rules.
• Maintain repair records through FIIX and/or Velocity.
• Improve the Preventive Maintenance Program on units for the facility and provide documentation to the Facility Manager.
• Maintain a clean and orderly maintenance shop.

Requirements

• Must hold a NY State HVAC Journeyman License.
• Ability to work on any shift, including 3rd shift.
• Must be authorized to work in the United States.

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience: Must meet the minimum requirements for a NY State License.

Physical Demands

• Regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms.
• Frequently required to stand, walk, climb or balance, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
• Occasionally required to talk or hear and taste or smell.
• Must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 90 pounds.
• Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
• Work on ladders and/or manlifts up to 50 feet.
• Ability to work in extreme hot and cold temperatures.

The salary range for this position reflects a broad spectrum of experience levels. Individual compensation within the range is determined by multiple factors, including relevant experience, education, certifications, job-related skills, internal equity, and market conditions.
