Maintenance Electro-Mechanical Apprentice
Job Summary
The Maintenance Electro/Mechanical Apprentice will develop technical and industrial expertise to ensure customer, team member, and vendor satisfaction. The apprentice supports the manufacture and distribution of dairy related products by developing skills to ensure facility equipment operates efficiently with minimal downtime.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Responsible for achieving assigned goals in maintenance, efficiency, safety, food quality, job performance, and cost control.
- Complies with GMP's, SOP's, corporate and/or plant policies, rules, and regulations.
- Effectively learns and develops skills to ensure facility equipment operates on all shifts at maximum efficiency with minimum downtime, maintaining productivity.
- Builds competence in manufacturing equipment, PLC, and other electronic/mechanical functions within the facility.
- Develops technical skills in equipment operation, electrical troubleshooting, preventive maintenance (PM), supporting PLC and mechanical troubleshooting and repair.
- Learns to perform Preventive Maintenance Functions on all facility equipment and begins light to intermediate PM tasks based on skill advancement.
- Learns to operate various types of equipment, including electrical meters for troubleshooting, PIT, and personal hand tools. May also include operation of shop and manufacturing equipment.
- Gains knowledge of all equipment operation and energy sources related to safe lockout/tagout procedures.
- Learns to analyze and take appropriate action on problems associated with manufacturing equipment.
- Learns to troubleshoot electro/mechanical issues when they occur, including installation, diagnosis, calibration, maintenance/repair of equipment and electronic devices.
- Learns to inspect and operate material handling equipment, such as stretch wrap machines, forklifts, VNA, reach trucks, and hand trucks, and change batteries safely.
- Covers breaks and lunches and other staffing needs as assigned by their manager/coordinator.
- Compliant with all legal requirements concerning dairy processing, SQF guidelines, and food safety on their assigned shift and reports concerns to their manager/coordinator.
- Works in a safe manner and reports safety concerns promptly to their manager/coordinator and takes corrective actions.
- Ensures work areas are sanitary and strictly adheres to sanitation practices.
- Communicates effectively between shifts and other departments.
- Other duties as assigned by your manager/coordinator.
Education and Experience
- Minimum High School Diploma, or GED
- Mechanical Aptitude Required
- Self-Starter Required
Skills and Competencies
- Ability to apply basic mathematical concepts and knowledge of weights and measures.
- Able to engage in and further develop critical thinking skills related to mechanical and industrial troubleshooting and intervention.
- Able to understand and respond appropriately to basic employee, vendor, and customer inquiries.
- Read, write, and communicate using English language sufficient to perform job functions.
- Knowledge of company's mission, purpose, goals, and role in achieving them.
- Ability to operate facility equipment as required in assigned area.
Knowledge
- Ability to interpret company documents and literature and UPC/code information.
- Ability to report to work in a condition to work.
- Ability to comply with GMP dress code standards by wearing company issued uniform.
- Ability to follow performance criteria, standards of conduct as contained in company policy, employment procedures, and responsibilities as described in the company handbook.
- Ability to maintain a safe work environment at all times and immediately report and take appropriate action to correct safety issues.
- Ability to complete all assigned apprenticeship classes and on-the-job activities.
- Ability to follow a rotating crew schedule that covers all four crews by the end of the program.
- Ability to travel for training.
- Ability to work in a traditional food manufacturing facility.
- Ability to be exposed to ingredients used in the manufacture of food products, including allergens.
- Ability to be exposed to chemicals involved in the manufacture and sanitation of a food processing facility.
- Ability to move throughout all areas of the facility, including office, production, and warehouse environments, including the outside perimeter of the building, including the roof, catwalks, terrain, and confined spaces.
- Ability to wear necessary personal protective equipment to perform job functions.
- Ability to stand and/or sit continuously and perform job functions for a full shift with meal break.
- Ability to physically move items weighing up to 50 pounds without assistance and move objects exceeding 50 pounds with reasonable accommodations.
- Visual acuity corrected to perform job functions.
- Ability to report to work at scheduled times and communicate tardiness and absences with the assigned manager/coordinator prior to the occurrence.
Pay Range
$23.83 - $39.80 USD
