Job Description
The Electrical Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for troubleshooting, repairing, maintaining, and installing electrical and mechanical systems on production and facility support equipment within a polystyrene tray manufacturing environment. This position plays a critical role in supporting safe, efficient, and reliable plant operations across all production areas and utility systems.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and mechanical systems on manufacturing and facility support equipment.
- Perform preventive and predictive maintenance activities to minimize equipment downtime and improve operational reliability.
- Diagnose equipment failures using electrical schematics, manuals, meters, and diagnostic tools.
- Install, replace, and repair motors, drives, sensors, relays, switches, control components, and other industrial electrical equipment.
- Support production equipment including: NRM foam extruders, Irwin Thermoformers, Rennco packaging equipment, Waldrop Padders.
- Maintain and repair facility support equipment including air compressors, pumps, hydraulic systems, cooling tower water systems, and other plant utilities.
- Troubleshoot PLC-controlled systems and perform basic programming modifications when required.
- Follow all safety procedures, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) and electrical safety standards.
- Read and interpret electrical schematics, blueprints, and technical manuals.
- Work closely with production personnel to resolve equipment issues and improve machine reliability.
- Complete maintenance work orders and maintain accurate repair documentation.
- Aid with equipment installations, upgrades, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Maintain housekeeping and organization standards in maintenance and production areas.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required; technical or vocational training preferred.
- Minimum of three years of industrial maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.
- Strong industrial electrical troubleshooting skills.
- Experience with PLCs, VFDs, motors, sensors, and industrial control systems preferred.
- Experience with extrusion and thermoforming equipment is a plus.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and technical documentation.
- Strong problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, climb ladders, and work in confined spaces for extended periods.
- Ability to lift up to 40 pounds.
- Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to heat, noise, moving equipment, and industrial chemicals.
- Knowledge of industrial automation systems.
- Welding and fabrication experience preferred.
- Experience using CMMS maintenance systems preferred.
- Understanding of OSHA and NFPA electrical safety standards.
