About the Role

Responsibilities

  • Perform skilled journey-level work in the construction, maintenance, and repair of electrical and electronic equipment, apparatus, and fixtures in an industrial stamping facility to support manufacturing and meet production schedules.
  • Apply electrical theory to test and modify operational electrical machinery, control equipment, and circuitry while adhering to MIOSHA and Magna safety regulations.
  • Troubleshoot, assemble, install, and maintain electrical/electronic wiring, equipment, appliances, and fixtures.
  • Install and maintain building electrical systems, power supply wiring, and conduit for machines such as conveyors and programmable controllers.
  • Install and maintain building and machine pneumatics, as well as electrical and mechanical components for presses, custom equipment, and related machinery.
  • Repair, troubleshoot, and maintain CNCs, transformers, motors, lighting fixtures, and other electrical apparatus.
  • Maintain safety, cleanliness, and orderliness in the Maintenance Department and at machines/equipment during work.
  • Support and improve 5S initiatives plant-wide.
  • Replace, repair, and maintain electrical and mechanical components and systems.
  • Improve troubleshooting documentation to minimize equipment downtime for operators and maintenance personnel.
  • Install software for presses and related equipment.
  • Train Electrical Apprentices.
  • Complete predictive/preventative maintenance tasks and work orders, including documentation, to meet Departmental KMI goals.
  • Support operator autonomous maintenance activities.
  • Adjust breaks and lunch times to support the production floor as needed.
  • Program logical controllers and peripheral devices (e.g., Allen Bradley) for automated machinery such as presses, welders, and robots.
  • Troubleshoot electrical and logic circuits using PLC software and electrical metering equipment.
  • Complete all required paperwork and computer tasks for the position.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work area, supporting 5S, Health & Safety, and Environmental initiatives.
  • Adhere to company policies and procedures, including IATF16949, ISO14001 (EMS), and the Employee Handbook.
  • Follow MIOSHA and MPTSH safety regulations, including wearing required PPE and reporting unsafe conditions.
  • Actively participate in MAFACT implementation and improve operational effectiveness (OEE, MTTR, and MTBF).
  • Engage in continuous improvement activities, submit cost-saving suggestions, and use the Employee suggestion program, Kaizen, and A3 methods.
  • Treat team members with dignity and respect in accordance with the Magna Employee’s Charter and Common Values.

Requirements

  • Mechatronics technician degree or equivalent experience.
  • Mechanical troubleshooting skills, including diagnosing malfunctioning systems, gearbox rebuilds, pump repairs, and motor repairs.
  • Knowledge of CNCs, stamping presses, and related machinery.
  • Ability to work at heights up to 40 feet.
  • Knowledge of building codes and ability to troubleshoot PLCs, servo systems, hydraulic systems, pneumatic systems, electrical controls, HMIs, and associated logic.
  • Competency in programming/commissioning VFD’s and Fanuc control logic.
  • Ability to work with 3-phase, 480-volt systems.
  • General fabrication skills preferred.
  • Must have own tools or the ability to obtain required tools.
  • Ability to obtain forklift and aerial permits; previous experience preferred.
  • Must be able to obtain Confined Space certification.
  • Valid driver’s license.

Skills

  • Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Fluency in English (reading, writing, and speaking).
  • Mathematical Skills: Ability to apply Ohms Law, calculate volts, watts, power consumption, and necessary fuse ratings. Ability to apply basic algebra and geometry.
  • Computer Skills: Knowledge of manufacturing software such as RS Logix and Microsoft Office.
  • Reasoning Skills: Ability to solve problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations and use problem-solving for non-immediate issues.
  • Communication Skills: Strong oral and written communication skills, including active listening and the ability to convey technical details clearly across all levels of the organization.
  • Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to facilitate structured problem-solving and actively participate in cross-functional team activities.

Physical Demands

  • Frequently required to reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, twist, stretch, and stand for prolonged periods.
  • Occasionally required to lift and/or carry up to 50 pounds and climb stairs.
  • Regularly required to stand, walk, talk, listen, and use a computer.
  • Specific vision abilities include close vision, color vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors, at heights, and in confined spaces.
