Maintenance Director

Join our dynamic care team at Northwood Rehabilitation & Health Care Center, a 123-bed skilled nursing facility in Lowell.

About the role

This is a salaried department head role where you plan, organize, develop, and direct the overall operation of the maintenance department to ensure our facility is maintained in a safe and comfortable manner.

Responsibilities

• Meet the maintenance needs of the facility.
• Recognize hazards to residents or staff safety and take appropriate action to maintain a safe environment according to facility policy and procedures.
• Replace, repair, and purchase items according to facility policy and procedure.
• Plan and implement a preventive maintenance program and document accurately.
• Maintain weather protection against cold, heat, fire, and other hazards.
• Supervise outside contractors.
• Serve on-call for emergency and off-duty hours.
• Perform errands and tasks as required.
• Maintain upkeep of the exterior of the building and grounds in all weather conditions.
• Demonstrate and teach correct safety techniques, in accord with company policy and prior training.
• Ensure staff comply with Privacy Practices to protect residents’ health information.
• Maintain regular inspections of resident rooms/units and non-resident areas for order, safety, sanitation, and proper performance of equipment and duties.
• Plan and carry out programs in repair, new construction, and equipment installation.
• Relate information concerning a resident’s condition.

Requirements

• A high school diploma or its equivalent.
• A minimum of three (3) years of experience in a supervisory capacity in a maintenance/plant-related position (preferred).
• Knowledgeable of boilers, compressors, generators, and various mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and knowledge of building codes and safety regulations.
• Must be able to read, write, and comprehend the English language.
• Licensed in accordance with current applicable standards, codes, and labor laws.
• Ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.
• Ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies, and the general public.
• Knowledgeable of maintenance practices and procedures, as well as laws, regulations, and guidelines governing maintenance functions in long-term care facilities.
• Leadership ability and willingness to work harmoniously with and supervise professional and non-professional personnel.
• Ability to plan, organize, develop, implement, and interpret the programs, goals, objectives, policies, and procedures of the maintenance department.
• Patience, tact, a cheerful disposition, and enthusiasm, with a willingness to handle residents based on their current maturity level.
• Sufficient mechanical abilities to handle facility maintenance needs with minimal outside contract use.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Three (3) years of supervisory experience in maintenance/plant operations (preferred).

Pay

Weekly pay up to $77,000, based on experience.
