Maintenance Craftsworker I
The Community Services Department is looking for a Maintenance Craftsworker I to perform a variety of maintenance-related tasks. These tasks include operating vehicles and equipment, performing irrigation repairs, playground equipment repairs, basic plumbing repairs, assisting with cemetery maintenance, and handling street/curb marking, pothole repair, concrete removal and replacement, and street sign removal, maintenance, and replacement.
About the Role
The Maintenance Craftsworker I is an entry-level position that works under immediate supervision, learning their positions' functional/technical aspects. This role is full-time, 38 hours per week, between Monday and Friday, 6:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Hours of work may vary, and some evening and holiday hours may be required. Work schedule depends on crew assignment and will be determined upon hire.
Responsibilities
- Operate vehicles and various types of equipment for the Maintenance division
- Perform irrigation repairs, playground equipment repairs, and basic plumbing repairs
- Aid in maintenance and burials at the City-owned cemetery
- Handle street/curb marking, pothole repair, concrete removal and replacement, and street sign removal, maintenance, and replacement
Requirements
- One year of experience in construction or maintenance work, including some semi-skilled assignments
- Completion of high school or equivalent education
- A valid Class C driver's license with a good driving record
- To be eligible for promotion to Craftsworker II, the successful candidate must attain, within six months of employment, a valid Class B California driver's license and keep it in good standing
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Valid Class C driver's license with a good driving record
- One year of experience in construction or maintenance work, including some semi-skilled assignments
- Prior municipal maintenance experience is desirable
Skills
- Strong physical fitness and stamina
- Ability to follow safety procedures and guidelines
- Good communication and teamwork skills
