Maintenance Corrections Officer

Typical Examples Of Work

• Receives direction on projects that may be occurring in the facility from supervisors;
• Responds to work orders created by staff regarding repairs that need to be made;
• Maintains support of the daily physical plant operation of the facility.

Responsibilities

• Consistently enforces policy and procedure;
• Responds to building maintenance emergency situations, takes direction as needed and participates in the implementation of emergency plans;
• Solves maintenance issues in the facility directly;
• Supports the repair of facility systems with a variety of outside service personnel and service contracts through escort and assistance;
• Ensures maintenance tools and supplies are properly inventoried, logged, stored, controlled and issued;
• Captures and coordinates with other facility departments and offices to solve problems;
• Supports the cleanliness and function of all areas of the institution;
• Responds to Level 2 emergencies in the facility.

Requirements

• Ability to learn and understand the rules and regulations relating to the operation of a correctional facility;
• Ability to quickly learn the methods and techniques used in the control and custody of inmates, including appropriate use of force and defensive tactics;
• Ability to supervise the activities of inmates in custody;
• Ability to remain alert at all times and react quickly and calmly in emergencies;
• Ability to follow both verbal and written instructions as well as keep records and write clear and concise reports.

Qualifications

• Diversified mechanic with experience in building maintenance, and a working knowledge of electrical, plumbing, welding, painting and HVAC systems;
• G.E.D. or High School Diploma;
