Typical Examples Of Work
- Receives direction on projects that may be occurring in the facility from supervisors;
- Responds to work orders created by staff regarding repairs that need to be made;
- Maintains support of the daily physical plant operation of the facility.
Responsibilities
- Consistently enforces policy and procedure;
- Responds to building maintenance emergency situations, takes direction as needed and participates in the implementation of emergency plans;
- Solves maintenance issues in the facility directly;
- Supports the repair of facility systems with a variety of outside service personnel and service contracts through escort and assistance;
- Ensures maintenance tools and supplies are properly inventoried, logged, stored, controlled and issued;
- Captures and coordinates with other facility departments and offices to solve problems;
- Supports the cleanliness and function of all areas of the institution;
- Responds to Level 2 emergencies in the facility.
Requirements
- Ability to learn and understand the rules and regulations relating to the operation of a correctional facility;
- Ability to quickly learn the methods and techniques used in the control and custody of inmates, including appropriate use of force and defensive tactics;
- Ability to supervise the activities of inmates in custody;
- Ability to remain alert at all times and react quickly and calmly in emergencies;
- Ability to follow both verbal and written instructions as well as keep records and write clear and concise reports.
Qualifications
- Diversified mechanic with experience in building maintenance, and a working knowledge of electrical, plumbing, welding, painting and HVAC systems;
- G.E.D. or High School Diploma;
