Maintenance Assistant

With 20 club locations—including the iconic SPORTIME Port Washington—SPORTIME offers 192 indoor and outdoor tennis courts, 131 pickleball courts, rinks, turf, camps, gyms, and more across Long Island, NYC, Westchester, and the NY Capital Region. Clubs are state-of-the-art yet affordable, featuring programs like the John McEnroe Tennis Academy (JMTA) and SPORTIME Volleyball Club (VBC) for individuals of every age and athletic ability, 365 days a year.
About the role
The Maintenance Assistant performs all necessary janitorial and maintenance tasks inside the clubhouse, offices, and locker rooms, as well as daily cleaning and upkeep of tennis courts. This hands-on, full-time position also includes outdoor maintenance of the grounds and surrounding areas. Tennis court maintenance is a priority.
Responsibilities
- Daily tennis court maintenance
- Daily communication with the Maintenance team
- Janitorial work in and around the facility, including:
- Washing and/or mopping floors, stairs, sidewalks, walls
- Dusting, vacuuming rugs, cleaning glass surfaces and wood panels
- Sweeping and applying wax to floors
- Restocking paper products, soap, shampoo, razors, deodorant, and other supplies
- Ensuring courts are cleaned and maintained daily
- Ensuring equipment is operational, clean, and safe to operate
- Maintaining a safe, clean, and secure work environment
- Abiding by SPORTIME policies and procedures
- Changing light bulbs and batteries in automatic dispensers
- Collecting and disposing of trash from receptacles
- Collecting and storing tennis balls and other equipment used on courts
- Upholding safety standards by:
- Wearing protective gear when using cleaning supplies
- Identifying and correcting tripping and slipping hazards
- Reporting faulty cleaning equipment to the Maintenance Director and GM
- Ensuring all MSDS are up to date and easily accessible
Requirements
- Valid NYS Driver’s License
- Reliable transportation to travel to several locations throughout the workday
- Knowledge of maintaining hard and clay tennis courts (a plus)
- Basic knowledge of electrical and plumbing (a plus)
- Basic knowledge of carpentry, painting, construction, and mechanical issues
- Ability to use electric and hand tools
- Physical ability to:
- Bend, stretch, twist, or reach with your body, arms, and/or legs
- Use abdominal and lower back muscles repeatedly without fatiguing
- Lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to identify when something is wrong or likely to go wrong
- Ability to apply general rules to specific problems to produce solutions
- Ability to communicate information verbally and in writing
- Ability to develop and maintain constructive, cooperative work relationships
Work Context
This position requires strenuous physical activity, including:
- Lifting (up to 50 lbs.), carrying, balancing, walking, stooping, bending, stretching, twisting, and reaching
- Use of both fine and gross motor skills
- Use of abdominal and lower back muscles continuously over time without fatigue
- Sitting and standing for long periods
- Working indoors and outdoors, including in cold, damp, or rainy conditions (e.g., shoveling snow, raking, picking up trash, using water)
Pay
$18.00 - $22.00 per hour
Schedule
Full-time with weekend availability
