About the role
The Maintenance Assistant plays a crucial role in maintaining the physical environment of our Assisted Living facility. This role involves performing a variety of general maintenance tasks, responding to maintenance requests, conducting inspections, and assisting with various events and resident needs.
Responsibilities
- Aid in the general maintenance and repair of the facility, including plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and carpentry work.
- Perform routine inspections of equipment, systems, and facilities to identify maintenance needs or potential issues.
- Respond promptly to maintenance requests and work orders, prioritizing tasks and ensuring timely completion.
- Conduct preventative maintenance activities, such as filter replacements, equipment lubrication, and inspections, as directed.
- Assist in the setup and breakdown of furniture, fixtures, and equipment for various events and resident needs.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of maintenance areas, equipment storage, and inventory.
- Monitor and maintain the facility’s inventory of maintenance supplies and equipment, reporting any shortages or needs to the supervisor.
- Document maintenance activities accurately, including work orders, inspections, and repairs.
- Maintain compliance with safety regulations and adhere to proper procedures for handling and disposing of hazardous materials.
- Report any safety hazards, maintenance concerns, or equipment malfunctions to the supervisor promptly.
- Collaborate with contractors and vendors as needed for repairs, inspections, or maintenance projects.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- At least 18 years of age.
- Required Health Screening, TB Clearance, and Criminal Record Clearance.
- Any special licenses, certifications, and certificates (First Aid/ CPR Certified).
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent; additional training or certifications in maintenance, trades, or related fields are desirable.
- Previous experience in general maintenance or a related role, preferably in a healthcare or senior care environment.
- Basic knowledge of plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and carpentry systems and repairs.
- Ability to use hand and power tools safely and effectively.
Qualifications
- Strong attention to detail and ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively.
- Good communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with residents, families, staff, and contractors.
- Physical stamina and ability to perform tasks that may require bending, lifting, carrying, and working in various weather conditions.
- Basic computer skills for documentation and communication purposes.
- Willingness to undergo background checks and comply with health screening requirements.
