About the role
The Maintenance Assistant works with the Maintenance Director to ensure the overall maintenance of the facility. This includes performing repairs, maintaining equipment and supplies, ordering and requisitioning as needed, and conducting regular scheduled maintenance checks with proper documentation. The role assists in evaluating and improving the efficient operation of all systems and equipment, recommending changes when necessary.
Responsibilities
- Support Maintenance Operations: Assist the Maintenance Director in planning, organizing, and performing routine maintenance, repairs, and preventive maintenance programs for the facility.
- Systems and Safety Compliance: Maintain fire alarms, emergency electrical systems, HVAC, and water/sewage systems. Ensure adherence to federal, state, and facility safety and infection control regulations.
- Equipment and Supply Management: Help with ordering, receiving, storing, and documenting maintenance equipment and supplies. Maintain inventory and report or repair equipment as needed.
- Facility Cleanliness and Safety: Maintain clean and safe indoor and outdoor areas, identify and eliminate hazards, and coordinate preventive maintenance visits.
- Professional Conduct and Communication: Promote positive relationships with residents, staff, families, and visitors. Maintain confidentiality, adhere to dress code, and demonstrate courteous behavior while supporting customer service and continuous quality improvement initiatives.
- Training and Compliance: Participate in inspections, audits, workshops, and continuing education. Stay updated on facility policies, Minnesota Department of Health regulations, and safety procedures.
Requirements
- Thorough knowledge of general maintenance, including boilers, heating and air conditioning units, refrigerators, freezers, and electrical wiring.
- Boiler license is strongly recommended.
- Leadership ability with a willingness to cooperate and communicate with all staff and department directors.
- Two years of experience in maintenance and power plant work is desirable.
- Experience in healthcare, skilled nursing facilities, or assisted living communities is preferred.
