Position Summary
The Maintenance Assistant is responsible for supporting the maintenance and operation of the facility’s heating and cooling, water, gas, electrical, and mechanical systems. This role also helps maintain the overall appearance and condition of the building exterior and grounds.
This role supports compliance with state and federal regulations related to the physical plant and safety requirements, while ensuring the facility remains safe, functional, and aesthetically maintained.
Essential Job Functions
- Performs various tasks associated with the maintenance and repair of facility.
- Repairs, replaces and otherwise maintains the physical plant, ventilation units, plumbing, thermostats, valves, etc., electrical, refrigeration (condensers, defrosters, refrigerator, freezer, etc.), plumbing (toilets, sinks, water coolers, etc.), sheetrock (taping, texturing, etc.), painting, furnishings and fixtures, and landscape maintenance.
- Keeps maintenance areas clean and orderly.
- Plumbing: Installs, repairs, and maintains piping, fittings, and fixtures involving in the distribution and use of water and gas throughout the facility.
- Electrical: Operates and makes minor repairs in the existing electrical systems throughout the facility. This includes the installation of junction boxes, receptacles, and switches. Replaces motors, belts, pulleys, and micro-switches, either upon failure or as trouble-shooting malfunctions occur.
- Maintains all maintenance tools and equipment in a working and orderly fashion.
- Accepts incoming freight and notifies respective departments of merchandise arrivals.

Qualifications
- Education: High school graduate or graduate of a technical or vocational school.
- Training and Experience: Three years’ experience with progressive responsibility in maintenance and power plant work.
- All staff that provide direct care to residents will have current first aid training.
- Knowledge and Abilities: A minimum of two years of general maintenance experience with emphasis upon electrical, plumbing, and carpentry.
Starting Pay
Starting pay ranges from $22.90 - $30.30 per hour. Factors such as scope, responsibilities, experience, education, job-related skills, internal equity, and market considerations may influence base pay.
Work Conditions & Physical Requirements
- Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
