Maintenance Assistant

Compensation

Starting Pay: $18.00 per hour, based on experience and qualifications.

On-call Responsibilities

• Responding to urgent maintenance issues
• Emergency situations
• Facility needs outside of regularly scheduled hours

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Coordinate maintenance services and activities with other departments
• Provide written and/or verbal reports and recommendations to the Administrator
• Develop, implement, and monitor a preventive maintenance program
• Perform routine and non-routine repairs to facility and resident property
• Coordinate with and oversee outside vendors
• Identify, evaluate, and classify routine and job-related maintenance tasks
• Inspect storage areas, workrooms, utility rooms, and janitorial closets
• Participate in facility surveys and inspections
• Develop, implement, and monitor plans of correction for maintenance-related deficiencies
• Stay informed of economic conditions and recommend adjustments
• Maintain strict confidentiality of all resident information
• Safety and fire protection programs
• Ensure proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE)
• Conduct periodic rounds
• Ensure appropriate PPE is readily available
• Ensure equipment contaminated with blood or other infectious materials is properly labeled or tagged
• Respond to emergencies
• Disposal of infectious and medical waste

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required
• Knowledge of boilers, compressors, generators, and general mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical documentation
• Knowledge of building codes, life safety requirements, and applicable safety regulations
• Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English
• Ability to make sound, independent decisions in a timely manner
• Ability to interact tactfully and professionally with residents, family members, staff, visitors, regulatory agencies, and the public

Physical Demands

• Move intermittently throughout the workday
• Work independently with flexibility, integrity, and professionalism
• Meet the facility’s general health requirements
• Work effectively with ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and occasionally hostile individuals
• Push, pull, move, and/or lift a minimum of 25 pounds to a height of 5 feet and carry such weight a minimum of 50 feet
• May be required to assist with resident evacuation during emergency situations
