Mainframe System Network Architect
Roles and responsibilities
- Installation and Upgrading a z/OS environment
- Customization
- Problem Determination
- Performance Analysis Tuning
- Capacity Planning
- WLM for the IBM Mainframe z/Series z/OS Systems, Hardware Systems & Peripherals, z/Series based ISV (Independent Software Vendor) Software, and z/Series Network Communications
- Interface with management and the technical staff to plan and prioritize project tasks
- Plan and execute Hardware and software upgrade projects including Datacenter move and exit plans
- Monitor system software access, performance, and resource utilization
- Maintain the z/OS and JES2/3 software environment
- Work with application programmers to ensure that application problems do not adversely affect production operations
- Assist with the analysis, design, programming, and implementation of client environments
- Create, maintain, and upgrade operating system software for development and production environments
- Analyze requirements and recommend policies, procedures, and standards for operating system software
- Implement and verify backup and recovery procedures
- Develop/maintain/monitor proper software use and security authorization policies
- Install new z/OS releases as they become available, RSU maintenance and configure to support Customer/Client environments
- Keep supported systems current with the latest maintenance provided by IBM
- Maintain system reliability and ensure availability
- Be available after hours for emergencies or exceptional situations concerning the mainframe and mainframe-based systems
- Resolve any system-related problems that may arise in a timely and efficient manner
- Able to install and customize IBM and third-party software using SMP/E & other installation programs
- Able to keep the z/OS hardware configuration current using IOCP and HCD
- Able to support leading/training of software management
- Able to write/customize software exit program(s) and use software utilities as required
- Strong knowledge of mainframe JCL and utilities
- Able to write/read/debug programs in a batch and online environment
- Strong communication, documentation, coordination, problem-solving skills, and the ability to guide the team
- Expert Level expertise - Mainframe Networking Protocols (SNA, VTAM, TCP/IP), z/OS Systems Architecture & Sysplex Integration, Enterprise Network Infrastructure & Security
Pay and Other Compensation
The Salary for this position will be 99,000 to 116,000 early depending on experience and other qualifications of the successful candidate. This position is also eligible for Cognizant’s discretionary annual incentive program, based on performance and subject to the terms of Cognizant’s applicable plans.
