About the role

We are seeking an experienced Mainframe Storage Engineer to support CGI Federal/SSA in managing and enhancing enterprise-scale IBM z/OS storage infrastructure in Baltimore, MD (onsite). This is a long-term position.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and enhance IBM z/OS storage infrastructure in a large-scale, mission-critical environment.
  • Work with IBM Mainframe Storage, DASD, Virtual Tape, SMS, HSM, Disaster Recovery, Replication, and Storage Automation.
  • Perform storage replication, backup/recovery, disaster recovery, capacity planning, and performance tuning.
  • Utilize tools such as CA-1 Tape Management System (TMS), CA Vantage, BMC MainView SRM, StopX37, Rocket BRM, and TREX.
  • Implement automation using Ansible, and monitor enterprise storage with ServiceNow and other monitoring tools.
  • Troubleshoot issues, document processes, and communicate effectively in a 24x7 production environment.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of experience as a Mainframe Storage Engineer supporting IBM z/OS environments.
  • Strong expertise with IBM z/OS, SMS, HSM, ABARS, ISMF, JCL, ISPF, IDCAMS, TSO, VSAM, BSAM, QSAM, BPAM, and OAM.
  • Hands-on experience with Dell PowerMax DASD, Dell EMC DLm8500, Oracle VSM/VSMc, VLE, ZFS Virtual Tape Libraries, PowerScale, ECS, Data Domain, and DDMC.
  • Knowledge of FICON, TCP/IP, Storage Management System (SMS) design, and enterprise storage architecture.
  • Experience with SRDF/GDDR, snapshots, and electronic vaulting.
  • Familiarity with Linux command line and enterprise storage monitoring.
  • Bachelor's degree with 7+ years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting Federal Government/SSA mainframe environments.
  • Expertise in virtual tape architectures, cyber resilience, storage transformation, and disaster recovery planning.
  • Experience designing and deploying enterprise storage infrastructure and migration strategies.
  • Ability to work independently in a 24x7 mission-critical production environment.
