About The Role
Globant is seeking an experienced Mainframe Developer to support a client’s healthcare claims technology environment. This role will serve as a technical lead and subject matter expert for mainframe-based claims adjudication applications, contributing to production support, system enhancements, complex defect resolution, and modernization-related initiatives. The ideal candidate has strong hands-on mainframe development experience, deep knowledge of healthcare claims processing, and the ability to partner with business and technology stakeholders to deliver reliable, compliant, and scalable solutions.
Responsibilities
- Serve as a technical lead and subject matter expert for mainframe-based healthcare claims adjudication systems.
- Analyze, design, develop, test, and implement complex fixes, enhancements, and maintenance updates for claims-processing applications.
- Develop and maintain applications using COBOL, DB2, VSAM, JCL, and CICS.
- Investigate and resolve critical production incidents, application defects, performance issues, batch-processing failures, and functional issues.
- Perform root cause analysis for recurring production issues and recommend sustainable corrective or preventive actions.
- Support mainframe system upgrades, application enhancements, releases, and integration activities.
- Partner with business analysts, product owners, and operational stakeholders to translate healthcare claims requirements and regulatory updates into detailed technical designs and development solutions.
- Participate in code reviews and enforce established client coding, security, documentation, and quality standards.
- Use mainframe debugging and analysis tools, such as Xpediter, File-AID, and Abend-AID, to diagnose and resolve complex issues.
- Collaborate with application development, QA, infrastructure, database, and production-support teams to ensure smooth integration and delivery.
- Create and maintain technical designs, process documentation, support procedures, runbooks, and knowledge-transfer materials.
- Mentor junior developers and provide technical guidance on mainframe development standards, claims-processing logic, debugging, and production support.
- Support compliance requirements by maintaining accurate documentation, traceability, and appropriate controls for application changes.
Requirements
- 6–9 years of hands-on mainframe application development experience.
- Strong development experience with:
- COBOL.
- DB2.
- VSAM.
- JCL.
- CICS.
- Experience supporting, enhancing, and troubleshooting mainframe-based enterprise applications.
- Hands-on experience with mainframe debugging tools such as Xpediter, File-AID, Abend-AID, or equivalent tools.
- Strong experience investigating production defects, batch abends, performance issues, and application failures.
- Experience conducting root cause analysis and delivering permanent fixes for recurring issues.
- Knowledge of healthcare claims processing and claims adjudication workflows.
- Experience with healthcare EDI transactions, including 837 claims and 835 remittance advice files.
- Working knowledge of ICD-10 coding standards and their impact on claims processing.
- Ability to analyze business requirements and convert them into technical specifications, program designs, and implementation plans.
- Experience participating in code reviews, testing, release management, and change-control processes.
- Strong problem-solving, written communication, documentation, and stakeholder-management skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a hybrid team environment and be onsite in Chicago three days per week.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with payer, provider, health insurance, Medicare, Medicaid, or other healthcare claims platforms.
- Experience with HIPAA-related claims-processing requirements and healthcare data controls.
- Familiarity with Agile delivery methodologies, Jira, ServiceNow, or similar work-management and incident-management tools.
- Experience with mainframe production-support models, including on-call support and incident triage.
- Prior experience mentoring developers or serving as a technical lead on mainframe development initiatives.
- Experience with testing tools or methodologies for mainframe applications, batch jobs, and EDI claims-processing interfaces.

Pay
Salary Range: 95,000–115,000 annually
