Mainframe CICS Systems Engineer

Enterprise Technology & Services (ETS) delivers shared technology services for Morgan Stanley supporting all business applications and end users. ETS provides capabilities for all stages of Morgan Stanley's software development lifecycle, enabling productive coding, functional and integration testing, application releases, and ongoing monitoring and support for over 3,000 production applications. ETS also delivers all workplace technologies (desktop, mobile, voice, video, productivity, intranet/internet) in integrated configurations that boost the personal productivity of employees. Application and end user functions are delivered on a scalable, secure, and reliable infrastructure composed of seamlessly integrated datacenter, network, compute, cloud, storage, and database functions.

The Enterprise Z organization (EZ) is a technology enabler for the business by providing a strong, resilient, and stable platform to host and enable business innovation/growth in our lines of business and global locations. EZ consists of experienced administration, operations, and engineering staff required to support the platform. The team works with the latest hardware and software technologies, including frequently refreshed IBM z platform and mainframe disk and tape technologies across our datacenters.

Responsibilities

• Handle all phases of CICS engineering, system and software maintenance, and CICS-related operational functions.
• Work in a 24x7 large-scale Sysplex and CICSPlex environment, interfacing with application developers and operations teams.
• Perform CICS performance tuning, debugging, and dump analysis.
• Provide on-call support and maintenance outside of normal working hours to resolve issues in the CICS environment.

Requirements

• Knowledge of SMP/E, software upgrades, and maintenance.
• Expertise in CICS parameters that control performance in a CICSPlex environment.
• Understanding of CICS SMF record structure and the CICS Performance Analyzer tool for gathering tuning statistics.
• Experience with CICSPlex SM implementation, customization, and dynamic transaction routing.
• Knowledge of CICS resource definitions, particularly those impacting region performance.
• Experience with CICS monitoring tools such as Sysview for CICS.
• Ability to perform problem determination, dump analysis, and performance tuning.
• Knowledge of COBOL to support application developers.
• Experience with Mainframe WebSphere MQ.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Skills Desired

• Assembler, COBOL, and REXX coding, including knowledge of CICS Exits.
• Web application support in a CICS TS V6.x environment.
• Understanding of z/OS facilities such as APF, Linklist, VSAM, LPA, RLS, and Coupling Facility.
• Utilization of CICS Configuration Manager.
• Working knowledge of z/OS & CICS Explorer.
• Understanding of CICS REST Services.
• Prior application programming experience.

Pay

Expected base pay rates for the role vary by location:

• Cleveland, Ohio: $110,000 – $165,000 per year.
• Colorado: $125,000 – $175,000 per year.
• Illinois: $135,000 – $195,000 per year.
• Maine: $125,000 – $175,000 per year.
• Maryland: $140,000 – $195,000 per year.
• Massachusetts: $135,000 – $195,000 per year.
• Minnesota: $125,000 – $175,000 per year.
• Vermont: $125,000 – $175,000 per year.
• Virginia: $135,000 – $195,000 per year.
• Washington: $155,000 – $215,000 per year.

Base pay is determined on an individualized basis and is part of a total compensation package that may include commission earnings, incentive compensation, discretionary bonuses, and other short- and long-term incentive packages.
