Mainframe CICS Systems Engineer

About the role

The Enterprise Z organization (EZ) is a technology enabler for the business by providing a strong, resilient, and stable platform to host and enable business innovation and growth. EZ consists of experienced administration, operations, and engineering staff required to support the platform. The Mainframe CICS Systems Programmer/Engineer is responsible for all phases of CICS engineering, system and software maintenance, and CICS-related operational functions.

The candidate must be comfortable working with CICS in a 24x7 large-scale Sysplex and CICSPlex environment and must be able to interface with application developers and operations teams. On-call support and maintenance outside of normal working hours are needed to resolve issues.

Responsibilities

• Perform all phases of CICS engineering, system and software maintenance, and CICS-related operational functions.
• Work with CICS in a 24x7 large-scale Sysplex and CICSPlex environment.
• Interface with application developers and operations teams.
• Provide on-call support and maintenance outside of normal working hours.
• Perform problem determination, dump analysis, and performance tuning.
• Support application developers with COBOL knowledge.
• Utilize CICS monitoring tools such as Sysview for CICS.
• Implement and customize CICSPlex SM, dynamic transaction routing, etc.

Requirements

• Knowledge of SMP/E, software upgrades, and maintenance.
• In-depth knowledge of CICS parameters that control performance in a CICSPlex environment.
• Knowledge of CICS SMF record structure and the CICS Performance Analyzer tool.
• Experience with CICSPlex SM implementation and customization.
• Knowledge of CICS resource definitions, including those that pertain to CICS region performance.
• Experience with CICS monitoring tools such as Sysview for CICS.
• Ability to perform problem determination, dump analysis, and performance tuning.
• Knowledge of COBOL to support application developers.
• Experience with Mainframe WebSphere MQ.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Skills Desired

• Assembler, COBOL, and REXX coding and knowledge of CICS Exits.
• Web application support in a CICS TS V6.x environment.
• Understanding of z/OS facilities such as APF, Linklist, VSAM, LPA, RLS, Coupling Facility.
• Utilization of CICS Configuration Manager.
• Working knowledge of z/OS & CICS Explorer.
• Understanding of CICS REST Services.
• Prior application programming experience.

Pay

• Cleveland, Ohio: $110,000 and $165,000 per year.
• Colorado: $125,000 and $175,000 per year.
• Illinois: $135,000 and $195,000 per year.
• Maine: $125,000 and $175,000 per year.
• Maryland: $140,000 and $195,000 per year.
• Massachusetts: $135,000 and $195,000 per year.
• Minnesota: $125,000 and $175,000 per year.
• Vermont: $125,000 and $175,000 per year.
• Virginia: $135,000 and $195,000 per year.
• Washington: $155,000 and $215,000 per year.

The successful candidate may be eligible for an annual discretionary incentive compensation award and may participate in the relevant business unit’s incentive compensation plan, which may include a discretionary bonus component.
