About the role
This role is a registered apprenticeship program designed for candidates looking to build hands-on experience through structured training and real-world work.
Responsibilities
- Maintain accuracy of operational logs, incident records, and shift handover documentation.
- Monitor mainframe systems, jobs, and batch processing to ensure successful execution and adherence to operational schedules.
- Perform routine operational tasks such as system start-up, shutdown, restarts, and job management in accordance with documented runbooks and procedures.
- Identify, analyze, and respond to system messages, console messages, and operational exceptions.
- Execute problem determination steps and escalate incidents to senior operations staff, system programmers, or application support teams as required.
- Support scheduled maintenance activities, releases, and change events under change-management controls.
Requirements
- No mainframe experience needed.
- Ability to follow structured procedures, runbooks, and escalation paths.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work effectively in a high-availability, time-sensitive environment.
- Clear communication skills for coordination with operations teams, application teams, and management.
- Willingness to learn and apply new operational procedures and technologies.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Completion of a relevant technical certification or degree preferred.

Pay
Compensation can differ depending on factors including but not limited to the specific office location, role, skill set, education, and level of experience. UST provides a reasonable range of compensation for roles that may be hired in various U.S. markets as set forth below.
Schedule
Full-time, regular employees accrue a minimum of 10 days of paid vacation per year, receive 6 days of paid sick leave each year (pro-rated for new hires throughout the year), 10 paid holidays, and are eligible for paid bereavement leave and jury duty.
