Mail Services Technician (Administrative Assistant II)
About the role
This position performs a combination of mail processing, equipment operation, and delivery services in a team-oriented environment supporting Fairfax County Government. The role operates high-speed mailing equipment, prepares bulk mailings, processes interoffice and USPS mail, and provides scheduled delivery and pickup services to county facilities throughout the region. It serves as a key operational resource by supporting multiple delivery routes, transporting accountable and time-sensitive mail, and ensuring the accurate and timely distribution of critical communications.
Responsibilities
- Operate high-speed mailing equipment (inserters, tabbers, postage systems, printers)
- Prepare bulk mailings and process interoffice and USPS mail
- Provide scheduled delivery and pickup services to county facilities
- Support multiple delivery routes and transport accountable and time-sensitive mail
- Ensure accurate and timely distribution of critical communications
Employment Standards
Minimum Qualifications
Any combination of education, experience and training equivalent to high school graduation and one year of experience providing administrative support in general administrative assistance and/or mail services.
Certificates And Licenses Required
- Valid driver’s license
Necessary Special Requirements
The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check and driving record check to the satisfaction of the employer.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience performing mail services, courier services, shipping and receiving, logistics, warehouse operations, print production, or related operational support work
- Experience operating high-speed mail processing equipment (inserters, tabbers, postage systems, printers)
- Experience with USPS mailing standards and bulk mail preparation
- Experience operating delivery vehicles and supporting multiple delivery routes
- Experience using package tracking, inventory, or asset management systems
- Experience working in a government, institutional, or large organizational mail services environment
- Experience providing direct customer service while supporting internal or external customers
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift material and containers weighing up to 70 pounds
- Work is generally sedentary, performed in a normal office environment
