About the role
The Mail Courier provides mail/package delivery to the Malibu Campus and Graduate Campus departments. The position directly supports the University's mission for students, faculty, and staff by ensuring the timely delivery of their letter mail and packages.
Responsibilities
- Delivery and Distribution to Malibu departments:
- Deliver sorted mail and packages to designated on-campus departments on the Malibu campus.
- Ensure timely and accurate deliveries while maintaining a professional and service-oriented demeanor.
- Report any delivery issues, delays, or discrepancies to the supervisor promptly.
- Delivery and Distribution to graduate campus branch locations (Calabasas, West Los Angeles, and Irvine):
- Ensure timely and accurate deliveries while maintaining a professional and service-oriented demeanor.

- Interoffice Support and Customer Service:
- Deposit student packages into smart lockers.
- Process incoming packages and assist with inter-office mail operations, including answering telephones, responding to inquiries, and supporting front-counter services.
- Cook up with departments to resolve delivery or package issues.

- Mail and Package Sorting:
- Sort and organize letter mail and packages by department and delivery route.
- Verify delivery information for accuracy and ensure proper handling of sensitive or time-critical materials.
- Scan incoming and outgoing mail and packages for accurate record keeping.
- Vehicle Maintenance and Refueling:
- Operate University mail service vehicles in a safe and responsible manner.
- Refuel, clean, and perform basic inspections of assigned vehicles to ensure readiness for daily operations.
- Report maintenance needs or safety concerns to the supervisor.
- Safety, Training, and Departmental Participation:
- Attend required safety training and departmental meetings.
- Follow university policies and safety procedures for mail handling, lifting, and vehicle use.
- Participate in cross-training activities to support other mailroom functions as needed.
- Other duties as assigned:
- Perform additional duties or special projects as directed to support the department's operational goals.
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Prior mail services/shipping experience preferred.
- Ability to listen to and understand information presented through spoken words and sentences.
- Possesses a valid California driver's license and a good driving record with proof via a current DMV printout.
- Ability to grasp and move material with hands and arms.
- Ability to lift and move 70 pounds over a short distance.
- Ability to operate a cargo van for delivery to campus locations in a safe manner, obeying all DMV rules and regulations.
- Ability to drive for long periods of time and distance.

Expected Pay Rate: $21.63 per hour
The above pay range reflects what Pepperdine University reasonably expects to pay for this position at time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on relevant factors such as work experience, market conditions, education/training, and skill level.
