Job Summary
Under the direction of the Maintenance Manager, the Mail Courier picks up and carries packages and other items between Porter-Leath offices and all work sites and other businesses. The role also involves assisting in day-to-day basic repairs and maintenance, and operating telephone switchboards to support Receptionist as needed.
Qualifications
- HSD or GED is required.
- Minimum 1 year of prior experience within a courier or driver position and a record of safe driving skills.
- Experience working in non-profit preferred.
Essential Job Functions
- Collects, sorts and routes incoming mail, determines postage, and properly delivers outgoing mail by ensuring goods are loaded correctly and taking necessary precautions.
- Drives to each Porter-Leath work sites safely and timely to deliver incoming mail and pick up outgoing mail from work sites.
- Completes errands as assigned using an agency provided vehicle.
- Affords assistance in day-to-day basic repairs and preventative maintenance of Porter-Leath facilities, vehicles, equipment using a daily to-do list in a timely manner.
- Operates telephone switchboard to answer, screen and forward calls, provide information, take messages and schedule appointments.
- Maintains indoor and outdoor areas daily for debris and refuse, performs light outdoor landscaping services as needed (cutting/edging grass, raking leaves and collecting branches).
- Checks all dumpsters daily to ensure trash is in dumpster.
- Completes general housekeeping duties in support of or in the absence of Housekeeper.
- Locks all gates at the main campus, secures Administration building, and sets alarm at the end of each day.
- Affords assistance to Supervisor on special projects as needed, such as room setup for meetings.
- Affords assurance that safety standards are used which comply with all company, local, City, State and Federal guidelines.
- Contributes to team effort by performing other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Knowledge of basic maintenance functions and techniques and working knowledge of maintenance equipment including basic tools, lawn equipment and housekeeping tools.
- Record keeping/writing skills to maintain accurate, up-to-date maintenance logs/documentation so that information is readily researched and retrieved.
- Organizational skills to determine workload priorities and complete a variety of tasks comprising a heavy workload in a timely manner and to plan/follow the most efficient routes for delivery.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision and ability to effectively manage workload with planning.
- Ability to exhibit initiative in reporting maintenance concerns to Supervisor.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to work as a team player and interact/assist all employees as necessary.
Physical Demands
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.
- The employee frequently is required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
- The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 15-25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and color vision.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; outside weather conditions; and risk of electrical shock.
- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
- Work in a non-smoking area.

- Maintains a valid driver’s license and good driving record.
