Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologist 1 - Relief

About the Role

The Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologist operates a magnetic resonance scanner to obtain images used in the diagnosis and treatment of patient pathologies. This position provides basic patient care, processes films, maintains equipment, transports patients, and prepares and maintains documentation. This role is on-site only.

Responsibilities

• Obtains patient history and educates patients/families regarding procedures, risks, and prevention.
• Positions patients appropriately for radiographic procedures and performs them according to departmental guidelines.
• Develops and evaluates radiographic results for technical quality (e.g., density, contrast, definition, distortion).
• Applies learned methodologies with independent judgment following established policies and procedures.
• Performs prescribed procedures in accordance with infection prevention standards.
• Explains procedures, answers patient questions, and prepares/cleans/adjusts/inspects equipment.
• Produces quality images and prepares/presents them with pertinent patient information for timely interpretation.
• Prepares and maintains accurate documentation, archiving imaging data as required.
• Collaborates with physicians and other medical professionals.
• Operates a magnetic resonance scanner to obtain diagnostic images.
• Uses knowledge of imaging techniques and cross-sectional anatomy to create high-quality scans.
• Modifies technical settings and adjusts scanning parameters to enhance images and minimize unnecessary exposure.
• Starts IVs and/or catheters effectively and consistently for the MRI process.
• Prepares, administers, and monitors IV contrast and/or patient sedation and patient status.
• Ensures completion of screenings for pacemakers and other conditions affecting MRI qualification.
• Adheres to regulatory and organizational standards for patient care and safety.
• Performs and evaluates equipment quality control measurements, troubleshoots issues, and notifies appropriate personnel.
• Monitors and maintains an adequate inventory of supplies and materials to ensure non-interruption of service.
• Participates in creating and sustaining a learning environment supported by evidence-based practice and research.
• Engages in professional development, including in-service and educational seminars.
• Participates in orienting, assisting, mentoring, and educating colleagues and students.
• Stays current and complies with state and federal regulations, company policies, and certification/licensure requirements.
• Reports safety-related incidents in a timely manner and ensures a safe work environment.

Requirements

• Associate of Applied Science or related field (Required).
• ARRT (MR) or ARMRIT certification (Required).
• BLS (American Heart Association) certification (Required).
• Fingerprint Clearance Card application number (Required upon hire).
• Fingerprint Clearance Card (Required within 90 days of hire).
• 1 year of experience as an imaging technologist (Required); 3 years (Preferred).
• Hospital-based experience (Preferred).
• Competence in using computers and basic software programs.
