About the role

The Machinist (Tool and Die) position at Materion is responsible for manufacturing casting dies, repairing or making new parts, and maintaining machine shop equipment. Duties include programing, running, and assisting in the maintenance of CNC and manual equipment, fabricating spare parts, supporting test specimen fabrication, managing inventory, and ensuring a safe and efficient work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Manufacture casting dies from drawings, sketches, SOPs, and other documents using CNC and manual equipment
  • Program, run, and assist in the maintenance of all machine shop equipment, including CNC and manual lathes, mills, drill presses, and other supporting equipment
  • Maintain casting tooling to ensure uninterrupted production availability
  • Fabricate spare parts as needed to support machine shop, plant, and maintenance functions
  • Support test specimen fabrication for the plant's laboratory, including training and assisting lab personnel
  • Machine billets prior to hot working and provide support to other operators
  • Manage graphite, machine tool, and spare parts inventory
  • Safely and efficiently operate multiple machines simultaneously
  • Keep the machine shop clean and orderly
  • Work safely and participate in all plant safety activities

Requirements

  • A high school diploma or GED with excellent shop math skills
  • CNC programming and set up knowledge with proven experience (preferred)
  • AutoCAD or SolidWorks experience (preferred)
  • Knowledge of graphite grades and machining characteristics (desired but not necessary)
  • Practical computer knowledge and capability, including basic use of Microsoft Office applications
  • A strong mechanical aptitude
  • Ability to read and work from sketches, blueprints, drawings, and SOPs
  • Ability to correctly use manual measurement devices such as micrometers, calipers, etc.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs on a regular basis
  • Ability to work independently without supervision
  • Compliance with all environmental health and safety rules and regulations
  • Wearing all required safety equipment
  • Knowledge of inventory control helpful for managing stock of highly valued raw materials
  • A positive, team-player attitude and ability to work with all functions in the plant

Qualifications

  • Must have a high school diploma or GED
  • Excellent shop math skills
  • Preferred CNC programming and set up knowledge
  • AutoCAD or SolidWorks experience preferred
  • Desired but not necessary: Knowledge of graphite grades and machining characteristics
  • Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office applications
  • Strong mechanical aptitude
  • Ability to read and work from technical documents
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
  • Ability to work independently
  • Compliance with safety regulations and wearing appropriate personal protective equipment
  • Knowledge of inventory management helpful
