About the role
Universal Plastics & Engineering Company (UNIPEC), a UFP Technologies company, specializes in developing and manufacturing precision thermoformed and heat-sealed polymer components used primarily for shielding batteries in Class III implantable medical devices.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Assembles, repairs, and fabricates parts and components for tools and machinery using machine shop equipment.
- Reads and interprets blueprints, engineering drawings, and designs sketches to determine specifications, dimensions, and tolerances.
- Selects and operates appropriate equipment to cut, shape, and finish metal, plastic, and composite materials.
- Sets up, services, and maintains machine shop equipment to ensure safe and efficient operation.
- Uses precision measuring instruments to verify the accuracy and quality of machined parts.
- Assembles machined components into subassemblies or finished units as required.
- Inspects, cleans, and recommends repairs for machine shop tools and equipment.
- Inspects finished parts and records data to verify compliance with engineering specifications.
- Recommends tools, fixtures, and equipment improvements to enhance fabrication capabilities and responsiveness.
- Ensures machine shop equipment and tooling are operated and maintained in accordance with safety requirements.
- Supports production operations and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Evaluates part designs for manufacturability and recommends design improvements to simplify fabrication.
- Cross-trains as a Manufacturing Technician to support business needs and provide backup coverage as needed.
- Maintains a clean, organized, and safe machine shop and common work areas.
Requirements
- High school level education minimum.
- Minimum of 1 to 3 years’ experience in a machinist position within a manufacturing environment.
- Previous experience and/or training with machining equipment.
- Ability to read, interpret, and communicate technical information in English, including work instructions, engineering drawings, and equipment procedures.
- Correct interpretation of drawing GD&T; i.e., dimensions, tolerances, attributes, and common symbols.
- Simple math skills; add, subtract, multiply, and divide with whole numbers without a calculator.
- Simple computer skills; Microsoft Word, Excel, etc. with the ability to learn new ones.
