About the role

Globe Machine has been a manufacturer of industrial machines, systems, and plants for advanced composites, building products, and pulp & paper since 1917. The successful machinist will have the capability to do manual and automated machining, read and work from blueprints/schematics, and perform tasks within budget hours. This role is a second shift position.

Responsibilities

  • Calculate dimensions or tolerances using instruments such as micrometers or Vernier calipers
  • Machine parts to specifications using CNC and manual machine tools, such as lathes, vertical milling machines, horizontal milling machines, and drill presses
  • Perform G-Code/M-Code self-programming
  • Set up, adjust, or operate basic or specialized machine tools used to perform precision machining operations
  • Align and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, or materials onto machines
  • Measure, examine, or test completed units to check for defects and ensure conformance to specifications, using precision instruments such as micrometers
  • Handle and dispose of hazardous materials (e.g., coolants, solvents) in approved manner (per Material Safety Data Sheets) using personal protective equipment, as required
  • Perform bench work (e.g., drilling, honing, tapping, reaming, deburring) on parts as required
  • Monitor the feed and speed of machines during the machining process
  • Maintain machine tools in proper operational condition
  • Study sample parts, blueprints, drawings, or engineering information to determine methods or sequences of operations needed to fabricate products
  • Operate equipment to verify operational efficiency and adjust as needed
  • Check work pieces to ensure that they are properly lubricated or cooled
  • Demonstrate strong attention to detail, excellent problem-solving skills and a commitment to safety standards in a manufacturing environment
  • Be available to work overtime when needed to ensure deadlines are met
  • Safely operate overhead cranes, forklifts, and manlifts

Qualifications

  • High school graduate or G.E.D. strongly preferred
  • Minimum 3 years of experience as a machinist in job shop environment
  • Able to read various measuring tools (i.e. calipers, micrometer & bore gauges)
  • Comfortable running one off parts and small production runs
  • Knowledgeable on Geometrical Dimensioning and Tolerance
  • Proven understanding of speeds and feeds, and machine codes required
  • Proven experience working with various types of materials (Stainless, Leadloy, Brass, Delrin, 1045, 1050, Etc.) required
  • Able to safely lift 50-lb
  • Ability to read engineering drawings required
  • Good math skills (Trig, Geometry, Etc.)
  • Demonstrated ability to be adaptable, tactful, and self-directed when faced with tight deadlines and fluid environments required
  • Strong oral and written communication skills and the ability to effectively communicate in English required
  • Proven history of being reliable with excellent attendance
  • Conduct oneself with the highest level of professionalism and ethical standards
  • Must pass physical and drug screen
