About the role
You will serve as a MACHINIST LEADER in the Mechanical Shop (Code 930) Production Resources Department Manager (Code 901), Production Resources Department (Code 900), of NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD.
Responsibilities
- Lead three or more employees to ensure workers have necessary plans, procedures, blueprints, instructions, and tools to perform their work.
- Maintain close observation of all work operations.
- Ensure workers have the necessary plans, procedures, blueprints, instructions, tools, etc. to perform their work operations.
Requirements
- Must be a US Citizen.
- Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
- Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.
- New employees to the Department of the Navy will be required to successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check.
- Appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.
- Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
- This is a bargaining unit position.
- You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty.
- Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
- Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals).
- You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
Qualifications
- Ability to apply detailed technical knowledge of work operations and apply same in leading mechanics concerning methods for jobs to be accomplished.
- Ability to communicate changes to workers under his/her leadership.
- Ability to utilize the various components and systems associated with naval submarines and surface ships.
- Ability to lead journeyman mechanics through instruction and demonstration of proper work methods.
- Ability to demonstrate knowledge of machinist systems and equipment, understand operational theory, check-out procedures, and have the knowledge and skill to perform machinist work.
- Ability to effectively articulate technical knowledge and skill to coworkers working on these components/systems.
