Machinist I - Entry Level

About the role

Primetals Technologies USA, LLC is seeking a 3rd shift mid-level Machinist at its Decatur, AL facility. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 2 years of machining experience or an equivalent certification.

Responsibilities

• Performs setup and operation of CNC machines
• Operates manual machines such as lathes, mills, and profile machines
• Monitors machine operation to ensure proper functioning
• Creates replacement and new parts, and makes repairs to existing parts and equipment
• Determines dimensions and tolerances of parts to be machined, sequences operations, and selects appropriate machines
• Computes cutting speeds, feed rates, and dimensions
• Prepares and pre-sets tools needed for machining operations
• Rigs and transports large parts and equipment using a crane
• Inspects machined workpieces to verify conformance to specifications
• Performs daily maintenance checks on machines

Requirements

• Candidates must be authorized to work in the U.S.
• Pass a pre-employment physical exam and drug screen
• No programming experience required, but candidates with programming skills will receive priority consideration

Qualifications

• Extensive knowledge of various metals and machining processes
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, sketches, and damaged parts
• Strong mathematical skills for computing cutting speeds, feed rates, and dimensions

Skills

• Proficiency in various types of CNC and manual machines
• Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities
• Attention to detail for accurate part creation and inspection
