About the role

The Machine Shop at Intuitive Surgical supports development, engineering, and manufacturing. Key responsibilities include fabricating new parts and modifying existing components. We seek a machinist/model maker with experience in various materials and advanced inspection techniques.

Responsibilities

• Support engineering staff in all new product development
• Fabricate new parts
• Modify existing parts

Qualifications

• Comfortable working in a team environment
• Positive attitude
• Experience with a variety of materials including stainless and tool steel, aluminum, and plastics
• Advanced understanding of metal and plastic properties
• Ability to program CNC machines and use advanced inspection equipment
• Good judgment and decision-making skills
• Attention to detail and safety in the workplace
• Knowledge of mechanics, mathematics, metal properties, layout, and machining procedures
• Experience with rapid prototyping equipment and processes

Skills and Experience

• Programming CNC machines including Mill, Lathe, and Wire
• Developing setup fixtures and intricate tight tolerance work holding assemblies
• Reading and interpreting blueprints
• Using precision measuring instruments and advanced inspection equipment
• Maintaining equipment to keep it operating at its peak performance
• Learning new systems and software
• Working with calibration reports

Education and Training

• 5-7 years of experience as a CNC machinist
• High school or vocational technical high school diploma
