About the role
This position interprets blueprints, sketches, and engineering specifications; determines sequence of operations, number of cuts required and method of setup and arrangement; works with a variety of machinist's hand tools and precision measuring instruments; makes shop computations; and fits and puts together precision parts and determines material, parts, and equipment required. It also involves fabricating piece parts per work instructions, drawings, and specifications using required machine tools, inspecting piece parts per work instruction and drawing requirements, setting up and operating machine tools, and performing other related duties as assigned.
Responsibilities
- Interprets blueprints, sketches, and engineering specifications
- Determines sequence of operations, number of cuts required and method of setup and arrangement
- Works with a variety of machinist's hand tools and precision measuring instruments
- Makes shop computations
- Fabricates piece parts per work instructions, drawings, and specifications using required machine tools
- Inspects piece parts per work instruction and drawing requirements
- Sets up and operates machine tools
- Performs other related duties as assigned
- Runs machine shop equipment such as lathes, CNC, milling machines, precision grinders, etc. to make parts to exacting tolerances and dimensions
- Uses, adjusts, cleans, and stores the tools, machinery, and equipment used
- Keeps records and reports of the use of equipment
- Performs in-process inspection of finished parts utilizing appropriate inspection and gaging equipment
Qualifications
- Requires a High School Diploma or equivalent and a minimum of 6 years of prior relevant experience or 2 years post-secondary/Associate's Degree with a minimum of 2 years of prior related experience
- Preferred additional skills include a trade school certification or state-licensed Journeyman Machinist certification, manual machining experience, working knowledge of setting up the operation of milling machines and lathes, working knowledge of engineering drawings, blueprints, production plans and/or work instructions, working knowledge performing in-process inspection of finished parts utilizing appropriate inspection and gaging equipment, knowledge of industry applicable laws, codes, ordinances and regulations, knowledge of machine tools and equipment, machine shop procedures and practices, principals and properties, knowledge of basic mathematic principles to solve problems, ability to work in a team environment and relate to all levels of employees, experience as a manual machinist on a conventional lathe and CNC machining in an industrial/manufacturing environment
