Machinist

SMS group is an industrial equipment manufacturer for the steel industry. We design, build, and service equipment for steel plants across the globe with a strong technical services/machine shop network in North America.

About the role

Must have 1+ years of machining experience, manual and CNC. Vertical and Horizontal Lathe experience needed. Must be able to swing shifts (day and afternoon).

Responsibilities

• Perform set-ups and operations on various machines:
  • CNC Horizontal Mills (Heidenhain Control)
  • CNC Vertical Mills (Fanuc Control)
  • CNC Vertical Lathe (Siemens Control)
  • CNC Horizontal Lathe (Siemens Control)
  • CNC Horizontal Lathe (Fanuc Control)
  • Manual Vertical Mill (Bridgeport)
  • Manual Vertical Lathe (6 Foot)
  • Manual Horizontal Mill (Supermill)
  • Horizontal Lathe (Poreba)
• Use measuring devices such as:
  • Tape Measure
  • Inside/Outside Mics
  • Calipers
  • Depth Mics
• Read and understand blueprints
• Apply good math skills
• Work collaboratively and follow directions
• Maintain excellent attendance
• Be aware of surroundings and safety of others
• Report any and all unsafe conditions immediately
• Understand hazard communications and job hazards before starting
• Follow basic safety policies and procedures
• Perform clean-up duties
• Operate a fork truck (training provided on site)
• Operate a crane safely (training provided on site)
• Lift equipment safely
• Locate and use disconnect switches
• Perform pre-use inspection of crane
• Inspect straps and chains before use
• Check all rigging before performing lifts

Requirements

• 1+ years of machining experience, manual and CNC
• Experience with vertical and horizontal lathes
• Ability to swing shifts (day and afternoon)
