Responsibilities
- Assembles, repairs, and fabricates replacement and new parts by operating mechanical equipment.
- Assembles parts into sub-units or complete units.
- Installs repaired parts into equipment and operates equipment to verify operational efficiency.
- Operates metalworking machine tools, such as conventional lathe, milling machine, broaching shaper, bench drill machine, radial drill machine, or grinder to machine parts to specifications.
- Uses blueprints and design sketches to ensure the proper dimensions and tolerance levels of the finished product.
- Cuts raw material on a horizontal bandsaw as needed.
- Deburrs production and finished parts.
- Performs routine preventative maintenance of machines.
- Maintains and secures work tools.
- Cleans, lubricates, and maintains machines, tools, and equipment to remove grease, rust, stains, and foreign matter.
- Turns off and locks out equipment when not in use.
- Provides backup for the assembly shop and warehouse.
- Provides on-the-job training to new employees as required.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- At least 5+ years of experience.
- Ability to operate manual machines such as lathes, radial and standard drill presses, VTL’s, horizontal boring mills, and knee mills to their full capability without direct involvement from a supervisor or other machinists.
Skills
- Ability to handle and read job/machine-specific measuring tools to inspect and maintain quality work using tools such as various sizes/types of plug/ring gauges, ID/OD/Depth Micrometers, Dial indicators, thread gauges, vernier calipers, height gauges, etc., in Metric or Imperial standards.
- Ability to calculate dimensions and tolerances using mathematics and instruments.
- Capability to machine ACME and Screw Pitch threads.
- Ability to read technical/CAD drawings and manufacture parts consistent with the information provided.
- Ability to operate pallet jacks, forklifts, and overhead cranes.
- Strong organizational and prioritization skills.
- Attention to detail.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency in using computer applications, barcode scanners, adding machines, and telephones.
