Responsibilities
- Set up and operate manual lathes, milling machines, surface grinders, and drill presses to machine parts to specifications.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and job orders to determine machining requirements.
- Calculate dimensions and tolerances using knowledge of mathematics and precision measuring instruments.
- Select and install appropriate cutting tools, fixtures, and accessories for each job.
- Monitor the machining process, making adjustments as necessary to maintain accuracy and quality.
- Inspect finished parts using micrometers, calipers, and other precision measuring instruments to ensure they meet specifications.
- Perform routine maintenance on machines and tools to ensure optimal performance.
- Collaborate with engineers and other team members to improve machining processes and product quality.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area, adhering to safety standards and regulations.
- Record and report production data, including job completion times and material usage.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical certification in machining or related field preferred.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Manual Machinist.
- Proficiency in operating manual lathes, milling machines, grinders, and other machining equipment.
- Strong understanding of machining principles, including speeds, feeds, and tool selection.
- Ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings and blueprints.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks effectively.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Physical ability to lift and move heavy objects, stand for extended periods, and work in a manufacturing environment.
Work Environment
Regularly works around moving mechanical parts and in outside conditions that include inclement weather, heat, and humidity. Noise level may be loud at times.
Physical Demands
- Must be able to move objects and use abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue.
- Constant movement and use of limbs; requires good manual dexterity, coordination, and stamina.
- Must be able to lift 50 or more pounds at a time.
